The jacket was of quality; light, flexible, quiet on the trail, comfortable to wear and hardly noticeable when adventuring. With heavy rain the jacket did start to collect water, but did not soak through. Hipbelts and Harnesses might overlap the zipper pockets partially. A feature that I thought was missing on this jacket was a self storage stuff pocket. The jacket withstood wind and rain with ease and the pit vents helps manage your temperature. This is a great option for a light hardshell, ideal for hiking, but also practical to tackle tougher environments/terrain. One of the biggest things that I look for in a shell is one that is as light as possible without sacrificing durability and repellency. The jacket feels great even next to skin which makes it great for hiking in high output environments when the weather changes. As for most shells, I recommend going up a size to allow for layering. This jacket is extremely light and packs super small, perfect for most of my adventures. While the jacket is thin, it doesn't feel cheap; it feels as if it could take a beating and hold up just fine! I used it for drytooling, and it kept me warm and dry all day, even though I was climbing next to a small waterfall. My only criticisms with this jacket are that there is no breast pocket, and the arms are a bit long. I fully plan to use this jacket for backpacking, hiking, climbing, and maybe even skiing. I fully see becoming one of my most used pieces of outdoor gear!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have several Mammut jackets and this one seemed to run a little small for me, it was almost too tight to put anything under it than a shirt. That being said, with just a shirt on it was quite nice for warm weather, very waterproof and felt breathable at the same time. I would not recommend this jacket to anyone who would use it in a work environment with anything sharp. I felt like I was going to rip constantly and snagged it several times, leaving a hole. With all that being said, I would consider this a summer jacket that I would bring as a backup for high altitude rain or as a windbreaker, and not in a capacity that would help with the cold.

Trail running, mountaineering, and a long backpacking trek in the Uintahs and I've been impressed with it. Mammut gave me this product for free to try, and it deviated from my typical choice on shells. I often gravitate towards burly 3 layer, 70+ denier jackets that are big on durability over the cost of weight, so when I received the Alto Light, I instantly noticed how well the jacket shed excess heat when exerting myself. Even without the pit vents, the jacket is breathable with the right layers. Swap up your mid and base layers and you can easily tailor this to your preferred venting per the activity. When it became too hot, I packed it away in a tiny footprint in the bottom of my bag, and when it was too cold, I threw it on as a great windbreaker. This jacket is definitely tailored for high mobility, high exertion activities on your feet. Don't expect to use this with any helmets underneath or for bushwacking. It's a quick layer that protects you from the elements and lets your body breathe and not much more, and it's perfect. When guiding, I often find myself standing still, and in shells that often means you'll be cold or too hot because there's no wind. This jacket seems to handle it well. I've been convinced in a way to shy towards lighter shells like these because I find that I don't have to regulate my temp as much when wearing it. Everything is high quality, flexible, and a feature rich lightweight jacket that compares and outdoes a lot of burlier jackets. From the easy cinch hood to the quality sealed seams, this jacket is engineered for movement close to your body and to wick excess heat. Don't expect this to be the end all be all shell, expect this to protect you from 0F-60F weather, rain, snow, wind, or shade. I find myself grabbing this quite often because it handles this mid-range so well. For the extremes, look to heavier jackets. Great for people on the move all the time. I was able to wera the jacket around town a bit and for a long trail run here in Fairbanks. After that, it gort super cold and more insulation was called for. I have had a couple similar jackets that I packed on long trips and in my wildfire gear that eventually succumbed to dirt and deet. I am excited to have this replacement. It's a simple design. Two pockets for your hands and a nice hood. Just what you need to keep the rain or snow off you and no extra weird zippers or odd things to break. Good for backpackers, travelers, or anyone that might need to keep the rain off and have a simple packable jacket.
