Genevieve Ruffle Short Sleeve Maxi Gown

I needed a formal gown for a "red tie" event over the holidays and was hoping this would be perfect. Unfortunately, the sleeves in the picture of the dress and how it is actually constructed are quite a bit different. It looks in the picture that the short/cap sleeves drape down like the skirt does but when I tried it on, they actually poof up in a 1980s style of big shoulder sleeve. It would be very cute if the sleeves could be removed so you just had narrow straps or if half of the fabric was removed but at this price level I did not want to alter the dress and I did not have time before my event. Otherwise, the dress is lovely.
