Diamond Stud Earrings

I have purchased three pairs of diamond earrings from Nordstrom—one Kwiat and two Bony Levy. Unfortunately, as consumers, we trust the big department store name and expect the best quality. With the best quality comes a hefty price tag, which I obviously had no issue paying (1.5 ct tw purchased). I took these to a jeweler to have them appraised for my homeowners policy and I found out these are a terrible cut and barely an I color (as indicated). The cut is too deep on my pair, so they lack the sparkle and “face up” appearance of an actual .75 ct stud. I purchased .9 ct (1.80 ct tw) for the same price with GIA certification and they look almost double the size due to the superior cut for this size and shape diamond. Furthermore, two jewelry explained to me the importance of not putting 18k gold on diamond studs because taking them on/off can weaken or damage the post. I am all for the superiors quality of 18k, but not at the cost of my post being too soft and susceptible to damage. Earrings and tennis bracelet clasps should be 14k gold because it is more sturdy. In the case of white gold (here), the color is not a factor in 18k vs. 14k. I am not a jeweler, but two jewelers explained the same point to me—twice. I would have put one star because I am just so disappointed in the quality of these, but I added one star back because I am also to blame for purchasing these from a big name department store. Safe to say this will be my last Nordstrom fine jewelry purchase.

I am a very petite woman. I never thought that with my delicate features I could pull off a pair of studs any larger than 1 ct tw. I tried the 2 ct tw on in the store and grinned ear to ear (no pun intended). I told the salesperson "I can do this." She replyed "oh yes you can". I didn't even ask for a box. Wore them right out of the store and wear them almost every day. Most diamond studs have a setting that stands out much higher - drawing more attention to the setting than the actual diamond. These settings sit lower and the diamonds sit perfectly on the ear lobe. Amazing sparkle, clarity and color. My jeweler examined these and gave them a big thumbs up. If you are hesitant don't be. Every woman deserves a touch of true elegance.

I bought these...finally! I have 1ct screw on back diamonds I had purchased from another jeweler in gold but have always wanted to upsize to 2ct. In white gold. I bought these as a pre-retirement gift to myself. I purchased at Nordstrom’s who had a jeweler on site so decided for this size and price, these too need screw on backs. They accommodated my wishes. Couldn’t be happier! They are gorgeous, sparkly and classic. I took them to my personal jeweler and had him take a look professionally, and he too agreed that I got a beautiful pair of diamonds. I have since also found a new backing that you can push on back of screw backs and then you screw them off when removing. I am so satisfied and feel on top of the world. Best Buy! Thank you Nordstrom! Buy them when they have the 25% off....worth it and some.

I just upgraded my 1.5 carat Kwiat studs for the Bony Levy 2.0 carat studs. I was very hesitant at first but the price increase for the Kwiats was ridiculous so I went ahead and ordered the BL studs. So glad I did!! Besides the reasonable price difference, I actually preferred the BL crown setting to the Kwiat martini setting. They not only stay close to the lobe but the setting makes the diamonds stand out even better! The platinum setting of the Kwiats sometimes irritated my lobe(s), while I've had no problem with the BL 18k white gold. The color, cut and overall quality is outstanding!
