With a name inspired by the first reptile to sprout feathers for flight, it's no surprise Arc'teryx is all about creating outdoor clothing and gear that allow users to perform at the point of extreme need. Its innovative, highly technical outerwear protects against the elements while ensuring ease of motion for an optimal outdoor experience.
I bought a pair of norvans around half a year ago now, and they have been no short of excellent. I use them for trail runs, long distance hiking, dog walking, and general wear while travelling, and they have exceeded my expectations. One friend was skeptical when i bought them as he claimed arcteryx have gone down in quality over the past few years, but the durability and comfort of my norvans have been brilliant. They have little to no noticeable wear on them in terms of damage, and my wider feet feel great wearing them all day long. The sole is grippy and cushioning as well as supportive, and the breathability has been amazing for long summer outings. Overall, these are great shoes and i highly recommend them. Truely versatile!

Bad Design!
I really like the fit of these shoes. They work very well with my foot shape and size, (I have a narrow foot) which is why I’ve purchased two pairs over the past few years.
Unfortunately, both pairs have developed the same issue, and it doesn’t appear that the design flaw has been addressed. In my case, the uppers wear out long before the soles. Specifically, the nylon material at the flex point of the forefoot, where it meets the rubber rand, wears through quite quickly and eventually develops holes—while the rest of the shoe still has plenty of life left.
This is particularly disappointing given the price of these shoes. I would happily purchase another pair if this issue were resolved, because otherwise they are an excellent shoe with a great fit (for me).
Arc’teryx, please address this design weakness. Improve the durability of the upper (at the stress point), and you’ll have an outstanding shoe

Hello, thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Norvan LD 4. We appreciate the detailed context you provided — including how well the fit works for your narrow foot and the fact that you’ve purchased multiple pairs over the years. Your notes on the upper material wearing through at the forefoot flex point, especially where the nylon meets the rubber rand, offer valuable insight into how this area performs over long‑term use. The Norvan LD series is built with a lightweight, high‑abrasion mesh to support breathability and agility on varied terrain, and your observations about the upper durability relative to the lifespan of the sole highlight an important stress point in the design. Thank you again for outlining this so clearly; we’ll make sure your feedback is passed along to the appropriate teams.

Greatest shoe ever
Have been a fan of Eddie Bauer until I put on a pair of these shoes now these are the most comfortable most well-built shoes I’ve ever worn the fit is exactly correct. The size is perfect. Does not seem to run large.

Needs thicker tongue & more space in mid-foot.
The attached tongue is a good idea. However, the material is far too thin. I can feel the shoe laces digging into the top of my foot through it.
Because the tongue bunches up, I have to pulling the tongue after I put these on. Thicker material would add necessary padding and prevent it from bunching. Thicker material would also probably provide necessary give around the mid-foot.
I had to return for the next size up. I have to loosen the laces as much as possible to be able to wear them. I thought my feet were average, not wide or thin, but these shoes are very tight in the mid-foot, even in the larger size.

Fine but not as good as the old ones
Has the gen. 2 Norvan LD4’s which were by far my favorite trail runner ever. Ran those into the ground and got these (the updated pair). Overall kinda meh about them. I like the increased foam, and the weight is still good, but they got rid of the loop on top of the lace pocket which makes you have to dig a bit to get into it. Worse though I think they shrunk the width over the ball of the foot (before your toes). Feels quite a bit tighter than my old part even accounting for wear/break in. Really wish they’d offer a wide option to remedy this.
Overall still a good pair of trail runners but the fit isn’t the same as the old gen.

Great traction
Love these as trail shoes, another great addition to the quiver.
