Details & care

We reach for the Alpine Pants when the objective calls for movement, durability, and comfort that lasts from the first pitch to the final rappel. Black Diamond designed these pants for long days on rock, where scrambling approaches, technical climbing, and variable conditions all demand gear that can keep up. The lightweight feel and athletic stretch let us move freely through crux sequences, while the rugged fabric stands up to granite, limestone, and everything in between. Built with a four-way stretch construction, the Alpine Pants stay comfortable on high steps, wide stances, and long approaches. Breathable fabric helps regulate temperature during high-output efforts, and a PFC-free DWR finish adds confidence when clouds roll in unexpectedly. Adjustable hems fine-tune the fit over approach shoes or climbing boots, making these pants a dependable choice for spring, summer, and fall mountain missions.

Poor belt system. Other opportunities to improve

Materials are great and overall durability is decent. The sewn integrated belt loop is obnoxious and a trend that really needs to go away. These would be 5 stars if they had a normal belt loop system that allows for removing the belt for washing and easy change of belt when the included plastic one eventually breaks. As it is now, the belt gets lost in the pants often when washing, the plastic belt buckle is cheap and doesn't hold up, and there are no advantages to this system, apart from increased cost of construction. This may seem like a small nitpick but it is a major distraction from what would otherwise be excellent pants. Lastly these are too thin/light to be called alpine pants, except for in the late spring to early fall when temps are warmer. These are more suited to a typical warm season hiking pant. Otherwise fit is as expected, size off of what you normally wear. I wont be buying this model again in its current form, especially at this price.

Great fitting and flexible pant

I usually wear a 32x34 or 33x34 in regular pants depending on the brand. I’m 6’0” 190, average build. For these pants, I went with size 34 and they felt good throughout the legs and waist. Length was perfect. I love the adjustable belt-not too big and easy to use.

Extremely comfortable and durable. Just what I was looking for. A lightweight waterproof pant. I wish they could make an insulated version

Liked them so much, I bought another pair

Great pant!, athletic fit! Stretchy, temp regulating, all around performer. The built in belt makes the fit that much better. I have used them for climbing, mountaineering, and trips to town with zero issues or complaints. Just buy them, you won’t be disappointed.
