Obsessed with this Thing
I’ve been obsessed with this thing since I bought it. Hard to describe, but it’s just designed to be every kind of bag you could possibly need it to be. The straps can be removed so you can carry it like a backpack from either side (with the pocket at your back or the breathable fabric against your back), or straps on the side detach to carry it like a duffel. I bought this to portage in Algonquin Park, and while it’s not waterproof on all 4 sides it’s just great and stays cleaner than fabric would. I also make use of the stuff sac it comes in, but I plan to pack it back down into that bag and put it in a larger back for travelling. I’m not one of those people who writes reviews for fun, let alone for a bag, so that I’m writing it at all should tell you this thing is awesome!

Workhorse duffel can go anywhere
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used the Thule Chasm 40L Duffel for a cross-country road trip from Denver to Maryland to New York, followed by a flight to the Dominican Republic and back. I have a soft spot in my heart for a well crafted and durable duffel and this one certainly fit the bill.
As a soft-sided duffel, it’s incredibly versatile. I used the backpack straps to haul it back and forth to rental cars and terminals. The straps tuck away when not needed and you can just use the handle. The wide-mouth opening makes packing and unpacking so much easier than top-loading bags—no digging around to find what I need. Great organization options inside the pack as well.
The 40L size hit a sweet spot: compact enough to work as a carry-on, but spacious enough to fit a week’s worth of clothes, including outfits for both the beach and a wedding. The golden color turned out to be not only fun and bright but also easy to spot in overhead bins. Bonus that it looks great next to the pond color.
The tarpaulin fabric is resistant to scuffs, light rain, and rough handling like being dragged through sand and tossed in the trunk. I love that theres a ton of handles that make it easy to grab in any position. Plus it comes with a carrying case that doubles as an organization cube when packing.
If you're looking for a solid duffel that's going to last trip after trip, this is the one.

So far so great
I've had this for a couple weeks, used it for 3 trips so far. I haven't used as a backpack yet, but excited to have a reason for it. Everything I have used has been great. Quality materials, good capacity, internal storage zippers are excellent.

Great Duffel Bag
I am very happy with my chasm duffel bag. Quality material, well made. Designed to maximize space for clothes, etc. I like the backpack feature. Nice carry on for air travel. I recently spent 2 weeks in Egypt and I was able to pack all my clothes in my duffel so there was no need to check my luggage.
