Selun Fl Sun Hoodie - Men's

I have the skin complexion of Mead college ruled writing paper and depend on sun hoodies to get out there during the summer months. I have tried many different sun hoodies over the years because physical barriers are my go-to sun protection. I have already learned that I am bad at reapplying sunscreen throughout the day and sun hoodies are a game changer for me. My review is based on wearing the Selun FL as a standalone top, no undershirt or layers. The Mammut Selun FL does block the sun and help to prevent sunburn. The construction is top notch as one would expect from a premium brand. First, the seams are flat which is very nice, but Mammut should have considered a wooly nylon type of thread to make them less abrasive against the skin or at minimum reduced the threadcount for the type of seam (it appears to be a 4 thread seam making the stitching very dense). The fabric itself appears to be midweight as far as sun hoodies go. Its definitely not the lightest but not the heaviest either. It more closely resembles the fabric used in sun hoodies for water sports. The overall pattern used for construction does not have seams on the shoulders which help when carrying a pack. However, this same pattern causes the entire body to rise when raising your arms. Not just a little, it comes up quite a bit. A feature I really like is the integrated neck gaiter. It is superb and a very nice feature for long days in the sun. Although the thumbloop feature seems as if it were an afterthought and is made by sewing in a small strip of fabric vs integrating it into the cuff design. Overall I will relegate this to higher altitude duty since it is heavier and less comfortable than some others I have. I feel it would excel in this environment where it isn't 90+F outside but you still need serious sun protection and won't get too warm with a layer on underneath.
