Runs Small Thru Bust

I bought this dress because I thought it would be great for travel, casual dinners out, on an autumn day etc. I ordered the medium because I'm typically a 6 or an 8 in this brand. It was fine through the body but I could not get it buttoned up on top without feeling like I was in a compression bra. The material by the way is fairly thick and stiff which makes it less stretchy than the typical stretch denim. I am returning the medium and ordering a large.
