Pleats Please Issey Miyake became its own brand in 1994, but the unique garment-pleating technique—the materials are developed from a single thread, and pleats are added after the clothes are sewn into shape—was first used by Issey Miyake in 1988. The clothes combine functionality with versatility for everyday life: they're light, wrinkle-proof, don't need to be dry-cleaned and can be folded for easy storage and travel.

A few changes
So, I purchased this Pleats Please skirt to replace one I had bought in the 90s! Yes, it lasted that long before stretching out. There are a few changes in the design since then: On the plus side, this new version has pockets! The pleats are more crisp, and the waistband lays flat. However, it is made of a slight see-through fabric, so I will probably have to wear a slip. The fabric is more matte, too. I am 5’9” 130lbs (US4/6) and purchased the Size 5. Pleats Please sizing is based on length only - choose according to your height and garment length preference. This skirt is definitely midi on me. I wouldn’t go shorter (smaller) at my height.

This is a classic staple item I have wanted for years and finally splurged. It fits great and goes with everything. Very comfy and just slightly sheer but has pockets. I want more IM clothing but it is not cheap! Worth the money though!
