Excellent Fit

I bought these about three weeks ago for hiking the Cinque Terre in Italy. I am an avid hiker. I am 66 years old and I have always had to spend time breaking in boots, NOT these! Excellent fit from the first step. The sole grip is spot on. The lightweight is perfect for traveling. Plenty of room in the toe box. I usually wear 8.5 US, I sized up to a nine. After two full days of hiking on steep ascents and difficult descents and loads of rocky trails, my feet didn't get a single hotspot or blister. I hope these shoes last, because I really like them.

Unwearable...

At first the shoe seemed comfortable after trying them out inside... but my first time wearing them on a short hike, I ended up with bad rubs under both ankles on both sides of the shoe. I figured they'd need a little break in, so I stopped wearin them while I healed up and tried them one more time. This time I wore them for a day of errand running..so very light use. The shoe caused sore spots on the top of my arch where the laces/tongue put pressure. I adjusted them several times to try to correct the pressure, and still I got a very red and sore spot on the top of each foot. So I've not worn them again..barely used them twice and sadly, I need to just give them away. I'd return them if I could but now I've worn them and damaged my feet twice, I'm stuck with them. I've been a Merrel customer for years so this is upsetting and sad to have such a bad experience.

100% Merrell - never disappoints!

I have never had a Merrill that I haven’t loved from day 1 - this is no expectation. Sturdy and comfortable.

Love these!

I brought these to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons and they were perfect for our hikes! So comfortable, never needed breaking in although I did wear them around the house for a half day first. I measure at an 8 medium but bought a 9.
