The edge of the board is scalloped — repeating rounded lobes that run the full perimeter of the calacatta viola marble, giving the serving surface a considered silhouette before anything is placed on it. The glass cloche sits centered on top, sides lightly fluted, with a solid rounded knob; lifted, it clears the board completely. Midday sun crosses the table — the board already set at the center, the cloche holding cheese and sliced fruit underneath. Crackers in a basket to one side, olives in a bowl, glasses waiting at the edge. The spread is done; the board was placed first and everything else arranged to meet it.
