Details & care
The Iron Ranger is an American icon. Redesigned by women, for women, the 6-inch boot is built with soft full-grain leather for easy break-in without sacrificing durability—the signature toe cap and speed hooks round out the rugged silhouette for a timeless, iconic style.
- Vibram® 430 Mini-lug Outsole
- Goodyear Leather Welt Construction
- 106 Last
- Nickel Eyelets and Hooks
- Clean with a quick exam every few weeks to determine if the leather needs maintenance. Use warm water, Foam Leather Cleaner, and a soft bristle brush to remove stuck-on dirt. Then use a clean, dry cloth to wipe away any remaining excess dirt.
- Condition by applying Leather Cream or Neutral Boot Cream to any smooth-finished leather to hydrate the leather without darkening and bolster water resistance. Black, Brown, or Burgundy Boot Creams can be used to cover scuffs on corresponding leather color.
- Protect by lightly mist footwear with Leather Protector six to eight inches away from the leather in a sweeping motion. Leather Protector provides an invisible shield against moisture, dirt, oil and mud.

Don’t Let Reddit Size You Down
My 4-year-old Madewell combat boots were finally coming apart, and I’d heard great things about Red Wing—Goodyear welts, solid build, the whole deal. I randomly walked into a local store and instantly fell in love with the Iron Rangers.
Also: they look so much better in person than online. The photos always felt a little “Victorian” to me, but in real life (especially the black pair) they’re modern, sleek, and honestly kind of sexy.
Now for sizing, because I know that’s what everyone stresses about. I have narrow feet, long toes, and flat feet (not a high arch). I’m usually a 6.5 in flats (no socks) and a 7 in most sneakers and boots. The store only had a 7, I tried them on, they felt perfect, and I bought them on the spot.
Then I made the mistake of going down a Reddit rabbit hole where everyone insists you have to size down a half to a full size because “leather stretches.” I started doubting myself, so I went back to the store. After they scanned my feet, they recommended a 6.5, so I tried that size on with my Bombas wool socks… and absolutely not. They were so tight I couldn’t stand in them for more than a couple minutes. My heels didn’t feel like they could fully settle in, and my toes had basically no wiggle room.
So my takeaway: if you’re hovering between sizes and you have a similar foot shape, don’t automatically size down just because the internet says so. Get the size that feels good out of the box. And honestly, I’m not sure I fully buy the whole “breaking them in” argument—most women aren’t wearing the same boots every single day long enough to suffer through a painful break-in period.

Low quality
I bought this pair and was surprised at how low quality they feel. I have to take some responsibility, though. People had warned me that the women's version was noticeably worse than the men's. I didn't think it would be so bad since they cost the same, but boy was I wrong.
I had to exchange them for another pair because of sloppy stiching and the heel coming up off of the sole. Additionally, the leather feels cheaper and is more flimsy then the men's version.
The eyelets are not even.
If possible, try a lot of different boot carriers and at the very least, get the men's version.

Best boots ever
I've had these boots for 4 years now, worn them nearly every day throughout fall, winter, and early spring. They are honestly the best shoes I've ever had. I wear them for everyday use and am not particularly careful with them, but they are still in amazing condition. The leather has worn beautifully. They don't require that much maintenance, I just wipe them down with a slightly damp cloth when they get dirty and condition the leather once or twice a year, and I will occasionally use black boot cream to buff out scuffs as needed. They still look amazing and I get compliments on them all the time.
They are on the narrow side compared to other boots I've had, which is fine for me because I have narrower feet, but people with wider feet might want to keep that in mind and potentially size up. The length of the foot feels true to size, but I think a half a size up would fine too, especially if you intend to wear thicker socks with them.
The break in period took a while for me but I expect that with high quality full grain leather. Once they were broken in and formed to my feet they became the most comfortable shoes I own. I basically live in these boots. There's something almost reassuring about wearing them at this point, like comfort food but for your feet. Or sleeping on your favorite pillow. 10/10 would recommend.

Perfect!
These didn’t take too long to break in. I was concerned that I couldn’t remove the insoles and use my arch support inserts but they are perfect and don’t cause any issues. I wear these daily to work and run up and down steps and walk on a concrete floor and my feet are not screaming at the end of the day. Happy with comfort level. They look and feel extremely well made so I’m thinking they should last for a long time. Great everyday boot.

These are my favorite boots ever!! They took a bit to break in but once they were they are heaven on my feet! I have them in brown but have a wider foot so the D are a perfect fit! I wish you had the black ones in a size D bc I would

Love
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] beautiful boots that are made in America. I'm usually between size 8.5 & 9. ordered 9. fit is good. thought they'd require some breaking in but first wear was most of the day with no issue. lasting quality boots that won't be in a landfill in a couple of years.
good collaboration Faherty!

Too Long but it’s worth it!
A gift from my boss! These boots are head turners, my boss and I were headed overseas and he’s walking toward me in the Airport, the rich color of the boots jumped out at me. Just beautiful, well my farewell gift was my very own pair. 2 1/2 years later and they look like old money!!!
I will get the black ones next year.
