Long Hooded Raincoat

It hasn't rained yet since I bought this coat so I can't speak to its waterproof quality. The fit is great. It's just what I was looking for - sort of a cross between sporty and tailored. There is a quite thin fleece lining. The coat is very lightweight. I live in northern California so I expect this will be adequately warm for me with a sweater underneath. I am 5'9" and 130 lbs, athletic build with swimmer shoulders. I normally wear a 4 or 6. I went around and around as to what size to buy and finally settled on the 38 which turned out to be just right. There is enough room for a sweater but the coat is not baggy.

First- its hard to see from image but this coat has a crosshatch pattern throughout. Just FYI its subtle but there. Was not expecting that. I LOVE the length. It is 39" long 40" in back so it actually reaches my knees- ( I am 5'7") The inside is fleece and has a great soft touch but the jacket has structure (feels a bit still at first) . I have yet to try it out on the rain, but the seams are all sealed. There is a snap flap on the back and a double zipper so that you can open flap or open zipper from bottom for a larger stride/ running. The hood has a small baseball cap like visor so you do not need to wear a cap under as I do with other raincoats. The only thing I would add would be a front SNAP placket for utility. Otherwise, quite close to perfect fleece raincoat.

This coat is beautifully made, quite durable, and very comfortable. I’m 6’ tall with an athletic build. The long version of this coat is perfectly proportioned for a tall woman. Even the sleeves are long enough. I bought a larger size than I normally wear so I could wear an extra layer or two during colder weather. It’s an excellent coat about 90% of the time for NW marine weather. After enjoying the black version of this coat for about five years, I just bought one in the cement color.

I love the style of this coat, but it wears like it was measured for three different body types; predominantly for a model thin woman. I bought the Blue Greyness color which stands out but goes well with many color schemes. The length is great. The hood provides good shelter from the rain and keeps my glasses dry in a light rain, making it a great practical feature. The materials are high quality and it is a perfect weight for chilly days with a couple of layers underneath. It is a bit tight around the hips causing it to ride up when you are on the move. The sleeves are about 2 inches too long. Also, it would be improved with an inner pocket.

I purchased this coat after investigating several long raincoats. It sheds rain well, is fleece-lined, and seems warm enough for most Pacific Northwest fall/winter days. A friend told me that Ilse Jacobsen is a cyclist, and she tries to design her coats for that purpose. Whether or not that's true, the sleeves are long and the pockets are ample. The hood keeps rain off my head and face. I love the midnight blue color.
