just what i was looking for
love this rainboot. i had originally gotten the original-tall and while it fit fine through the calf and while the high gloss was cute, it was a little too much boot for me. i wanted something simpler, easier, and less flashy. So i got the short in black and it's perfect. it will work everywhere from soggy soccer fields to winter hikes to puddle jumping with my kids and it's not super pretentious. Great traction, good fit if you size down a half or full size.

If you want to replace them in 2 yrs, buy Hunter
I bought these boots from a store two years ago. I've stored them properly and wore them on occasion -- when I needed to go out in the rain. Last month, the left boot started leaking. Wet socks and feet. I contacted Hunter Customer Service, who said that their defective return policy is for one year, so they declined to help me. I asked them to reconsider, again they declined. I think that a rain boot should be water proof for longer than 2 years! You don't wear them every day. So if you feel like spending $130 now and spending more money in two years to replace your rain boots, buy these Hunter boots.

Glad I went with the "short"
I recently moved fro the desert to Memphis, and realized I was in need of some weather appropriate shoes. I had read the reviews for the original hunters, but was concerned about the calf width (more specifically MY calf width). My calf is 16" at the widest portion, and I really didn't want to struggle with getting these boots on/off, or worrying about what I could or couldn't wear (jeans vs leggings etc). I considered the wide calf version, but it still didn't seem like it would be ideal. Plus a lot of the reviews mentioned the weird and shape-less ankle on the huntress. The original short is perfect for me. It still reaches up to mid-shin and I can wear most jeans with them. What's even better is that even though they are labeled short, they still provide more than enough height for rain coverage and easy to move in. They are surprisingly heavier than I expected, so I can't imagine how heavy the original is on your foot! Granted I'm not out in fields or extreme mud etc, but for going about my daily life, they are good.

Too Big and Clunky
I was really looking forward to getting these as I am in dire need of rain boots and have heard good things about Hunter.
They don't come in half sizes, so I ordered both a 6 and a 7 (I wear a 6.5) hoping that one would work. The 6 was too small and the 7 was way too big. I also felt that the boots were too heavy and clunky for my small frame.
On the plus side, they did seem to be of good quality. I would recommend, but not for petite figures. Maybe I should try the kids' version? :)

Great for my commute
I wear this boot nearly every day in Seattle on my way to work. I change into other shoes when I get to my office. These fit my slightly wide foot well. I bought my normal size and I wear thick socks with them. I have athletic calves and the tall Hunter doesn't fit me well. These fit well and are easier to walk in with more give at the ankle due to the shorter height.

Boots
I'm usually an 8.5 but I purchased an 9 and they fit well. I usually wear them with the hunter fleece inserts that will keep your feet very warm. I found the shoes to be extremely rain proof and worth the price. If you are going to buy a pair I'd recommend the inserts. Another thing that the short ones have that the tall's don't is a wider leg which I personally like better.
