Ingredients Can and Did Cause Hair Loss
I have lost at least 1/4 of my hair in just 2 months after I started using this shampoo, conditioner, and mask, washing 1-2 times per week. My remaining hair has never felt so dry, unclean, super frizzy, and has been an absolute nightmare to deal with. I don't think it is fair to place hair loss blame without doing diligence to rule out other causes. My hormones are in balance, good health, no recent illness or dietary changes, and I had no stress until my hair started falling out at a very fast rate. After reading so many similar reviews claiming hair loss from these products, I knew I had to research the ingredients list, and post a review to help others make an informed decision. Here is what I found to be the 'Potentially Problematic ingredients in the 'Don't Despair Repair Shampoo':
- Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate
What it is: A surfactant and cleansing agent, often used as a sulfate alternative.
Why it’s a concern: It can be harsh and drying, potentially stripping natural oils and irritating the scalp in some people. While not directly causing hair loss, scalp irritation or dryness can contribute to weakened hair follicles over time.
- Fragrance (Parfum)
What it is: A generic term for a blend of undisclosed scent chemicals.
Why it’s a concern: Fragrance is a common allergen and irritant. Reactions can range from itching and flaking to inflammation, which may affect the hair follicles and potentially lead to hair shedding in sensitive individuals.
- Benzyl Alcohol
What it is: A preservative and solvent.
Why it’s a concern: While generally considered safe, benzyl alcohol can cause contact dermatitis or allergic reactions in some people. Chronic irritation can impair a healthy scalp environment.
- Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate
