What it does: This eyeshadow is unlike any other in its ability to appear transparent or opaque depending on whether it's applied wet or dry. A high concentration of ginseng enhances skin's condition and imparts greater elasticity. It's designed for customizable, refillable palettes.
How to use: Apply to the eyelid, brow bone and crease with any eye brush.

Eye Shadow Gem
You thought an eye shadow called Opal had a pink cast like Laura Mercier's 2013 Opal Fantasy or even Awake's Stardom from decades past and M-A-C-s "gone but not forgotten" Seedy Pearl, didn't you?
Chantecaille's Opal in their "Lasting" formula, which doesn't fade, crease, or run and can be applied wet or dry to appear transparent of opaque, is a white gold with slight shimmer, quite different but perfect for lash-to-brow application, worn with a dark liner like black or navy. It's sold as a refill only, so you'll have to purchase a case separately and then determine how to label the case and where to stow it safely because it's rounded and not intended to balance well on the shelf of a wall cabinet where other shadows are kept.
This is a gorgeous color, so you won't return it even if it's not what the name suggested based on previous experience, If you want it to conform to your expectations, invest in Lilac Rose from the "Iridescent" collection, a lightweight metallic, and apply this with Opal. Another refill that requires another case, but quite possibly worth the splurge!
Get your shine on for the holidays and new year ahead. Enjoy the compliments and the season. Shakespeare referred to opals as "the queen of gems." Chantecaille's Opal will make you feel like royalty. Hop into that coach, and wave to your subjects (or just passersby). Chances are they'll wave back.

Disappointed long time user
So Chantecaille appear to have discontinued many of their eye shadows (which isn’t immediately clear from the Space NK website). I’ve used Shell forever as the perfect invisible but light reflecting base. What isn’t clear is that other shades are not light reflecting, no pearls and therefore a hilarious price point. Don’t be scammed-these are no longer worth the price unless you buy a shine or iridescent shade - these are actually separate lines but Space NK is listing them all as one. The ‘long wear’ is just basic eye shadow and looks chalky. I’d return it but suspect it’s too much hassle.

Beautiful but they don't perform.
This is the problem that I have with all Chantecaille eyeshadows.
They are beautiful in the pan. They blend beautifully. They are buttery and soft.
But they lack pigment. You have to PACK on the color to see it and after packing on so much it begins to get muddy. I'm very pale and these barely showed up on me without packing it on or with a wet brush.

Iron Ore 'Lasting' Eye Shade Refill
I purchased this in store and the person helping me showed me ways to apply it wet as an eyeliner or to boost a cream/kohl eyeliner as well as subtle ways to create a smokey eye. At first I thought this was way too dark as an eye shadow but it is versatile and I use it almost every day. This particular shade provides a nice bit of glimmer without being too overpowering.

Coriander is the most lovely shade
I purchased this wonderful shadow in Coriander which is a grey taupey brown color. It's a lovely color which I layer over a neutral shade base such as Opal. I really love the texture and colors of the Lasting Eye Shadows by Chantecaille and highly recommend. They aren't too shiny and not too matte. Just right!
