Luka Expandable Tote Bag

Structural seam failure after only two uses. Company refused to stand behind the product. My Luka duffel developed seam separation at a load-bearing corner after only two trips. This is a structural failure, not cosmetic wear, and should not happen with normal travel use. I submitted photos and a warranty claim directly with Calpak (Order #1224484). The claim was denied based only on warranty timing rather than the actual defect. A travel duffel should not begin coming apart after such minimal use. I own multiple Calpak products and expected the company to stand behind its products and its repeat customers. Instead, they refused to take responsibility for a clearly defective bag. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got great use out of this bag as a carry-on for travel. A year in, there was some peeling of the matte material along the bottom rim. Not too much damage but still a little disappointed. The inner laptop pouch could be designed better to adjust with the expandable zipper. When the bag is expanded, the laptop doesn't quite sit right and then restricts access to the very bottom of the bag. Otherwise, very practical, roomy bag. I ended up giving it away to get the duffel.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My Luka tote’s first outing involved multiple canceled flights and running through multiple airports, including the bag being dropped down an escalator while racing for a connection, then being shoved under a half-dozen airplane seats on the gross skittle- and gum-encrusted carpet. Even in the Gunmetal, it doesn’t have a single mark. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth, though there were no visible marks. It fits easily and securely over a roller bag handle, and my 16 inch laptop fits perfectly, including its bulky cord, with loads of room for a fat novel, snacks, many charging cords, a hydroflask water bottle, toiletries, and other odds and ends. The pockets held my ever-changing boarding passes, ID, whatever I needed close at hand. I highly recommend the matching mini backpack bag charm that clips on the handle for hand sanitizer, AirPods, lip balm, lotion, whatever you may need for quick access during the flight. Though I love the streamlined look, an exterior water bottle pocket deep enough for a 24oz bottle would be very useful, and the interior pockets are too open and floppy, so things tend to get caught on them when you’re trying to shove them in the bag quickly. I also wish it came with a cloth drawstring bag for storage. I did not find the dark interior problematic (it was helpful to hide potential stains when I opened my tray table and orange crumbs fell out of it right into my bag below). My husband thought the Gunmetal looked like duct tape but I think it stands out while still being neutral. To me, the lighter colors look like diaper bags, and, while I like the black, it’s not very interesting. If you have a fat laptop like I do and need a good travel bag, the Luka duffle everyone has is the wrong dimensions but this holds just as much plus your computer, too. Get it!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently got this bag to replace my State Puffer Tote and I love it. I use it for daily work and work travel. It's lightweight and well built. It's got a ton of room inside for all of my work essentials. Its easy to access everything and easy to keep organized. It travels well and looks great. The expandable bottom is a nice bonus. I am sold on calpak after this purchase.
