Hello Bazza, thank you for reaching out. We’re sorry to hear your Beta AR Jacket wetted out on its first use. That’s certainly not the experience we want for our guests, and we understand how disappointing that must be. This jacket features our updated GORE-TEX PRO ePE fabric, which is free from intentionally added PFAS and designed to be just as strong and durable as previous versions. That said, if it’s not keeping you dry after just one wear, we encourage you to submit a Product Service Request form. Our team would be happy to assess what’s happening and assist you further. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/help/product-service/service-request

Good...with some fit limitations
It’s a great shell from a performance standpoint. Waterproofing is solid, it blocks wind well, and it breathes nicely.
The problem is the fit. It’s uncomfortably tight in the shoulders and pit area. I have to keep the pit zips partially open just to wear it, which defeats the purpose.
Bought it online without trying it on — lesson learned.
arcteryx.com response
Hello there, thank you for sharing your experience with the Beta AR Jacket. We’re glad to hear the performance met your expectations, but we’re sorry the fit didn’t work for you and that the shoulder and underarm area felt uncomfortable. Purchasing online without the chance to try the jacket on can make sizing difficult, and we understand how this outcome didn’t match what you were hoping for. Your comments are important to us, and we’ll be sharing this feedback with our teams as we continue reviewing guest insights and looking for ways to improve both our products and the guidance we provide.

Awesome shell
This jacket is awesome! Came just in time for a snowstorm! Super high quality, really breathable and even kept me a bit warm with just a long sleeve under it. Water beads off like no other jacket I’ve had. Goes well with my atom hoodie! Thank you Arc'teryx!!

Durability Issues
After just a few years of use, the adhesion between panels does not hold and the jacket is literally falling apart. Previous version lasted more than 5 years.
arcteryx.com response
Hello there, thank you for sharing your experience with your Beta AR Jacket. We’re sorry to hear that the panel adhesion has started to fail after a few years of use, especially since your previous version lasted longer. Your feedback is important, and we’ll be passing it along to our Product Development team as part of our ongoing review of materials and construction. If you haven’t already, we’d recommend submitting a Product Service Request so our team can assess your jacket directly and determine the best next steps. https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/help/product-service/service-request

Bad cuff design
I bought this for half off on a friends and family deal so I’m only upset with spending over 400 and not furious with spending over 900.
The cuffs are horrible. Every time it’s raining the cuffs turn into sponges that seep up to both my wrists. Not sure if the rain seeps into and through the Velcro or the stitching at the bottom of the cuffs is the culprit.
And the pockets are useless, they are placed way too high.
Rant over. I wish I bought something else
arcteryx.com response
Hello Whitley, thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Beta AR Jacket. We’re sorry to hear that the cuffs and pocket placement haven’t worked well for you. We understand how uncomfortable it can be when the cuffs absorb moisture in sustained rain, and your observations about how water interacts with the materials are important for us to hear. The pockets on the Beta AR are intentionally positioned higher to remain accessible while wearing a climbing harness or hipbelt, since this jacket is designed for alpine use — though we recognize this placement can feel less intuitive for everyday wear. We’ve shared your feedback with our product team as part of our ongoing review process, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to let us know how the design is working for you.

Arc’teryx Beta AR (Black Sapphire) Review
Arc’teryx Beta AR (Black Sapphire) Review
I’ve had this jacket for a few months now and it’s been spot on. The fit is excellent, mobility is great, and it works just as well as an everyday walking jacket as it does for proper outdoor use.
For sizing reference, I’m 5’11” (179cm), around 200 lbs (90kg), and I wear a size Large. I run slightly hotter than most, and during skiing temperatures ranging from about -10°C to +5°C, I wore just a long-sleeve thermal base layer with either a T-shirt or thin fleece underneath and felt perfectly comfortable the whole time.
Breathability has been excellent, especially combined with the pit zips, which made it easy to regulate temperature on warmer days or during harder runs. Waterproofing has also been flawless in snow and wet conditions. Being a shell jacket made layering much easier and more freeing, as I could choose my own insulation depending on conditions rather than being locked into built-in warmth.
I recently took it on a ski trip to Mayrhofen and it performed brilliantly. The helmet-compatible hood has excellent adjustability with the pull cords, and the drop hood design helped keep my lower face and chin protected from wind chill whether fully zipped with the hood up or down.
After plenty of falls on the slopes, the jacket still looks brand new with no noticeable marks or scratches. That’s what really sold me on the Beta AR over the Beta SL. The thicker fabric feels much more durable, so you can rough it up without constantly worrying about damaging it.
Overall, this is a solid, versatile shell that feels premium, performs exactly as expected, and is tough enough for skiing, hiking, and everyday wear. I’ll definitely get a lot of wear out of it and it’s well worth the price tag.
