Runs small in the hips

I originally ordered these in XL for my husband who has a 37" waist and it was too tight in the hips/upper thighs for him. He has "hockey player thighs." I reordered in XXL and both colors are perfect now. The drawstring waist lets him cinch it to fit and he says they feel very comfortable.
