Sapper Regular Fit Weatherproof Waxed Cotton Jacket

I am 5'10", 40" chest, 31" waist, athletic build - I tried on both the small and the medium (I typically wear a Medium shirt). Since I rarely "layer" , I opted for the small. It is quite fitted, especially across the chest, but that is the way I like my jackets. The "action shoulder" (similar to a side pleat on a dress shirt) gives me just a little more room when I need it. The medium wasn't huge by any means, and had I bought this jacket with the idea of wearing it in very cold temps with a sweater and / or vest under it, I would have bought the medium. Be advised that Barbour/ Barbour International sizing varies greatly. For example, I fit comfortably in a Large in both the Barbour International "Duke" and "Polarquilt" jackets. It is always advisable to make a trip to your local store and try on different sizes / styles. This jacket is warmer than expected. The quilted lining has kept me warm during these 20 degree days with only a dress shirt underneath. And, as expected, water just beads up and then runs off the wax cotton shell.

This is a handsome jacket that is fitted, but not constricting. I have found with many of the more stylish Barbour coats you have to go up one size, but not in this jacket. My husband order his usual Large, and the fit was spot on. We did, however, return this jacket for two reasons. One: there are no side-entry pockets; you can only enter the pockets from the top. This is a dealbreaker for my man. Two: the newer waxed cotton on Barbour jackets (and not just this one) isn't a "waxy" as it used to be. This version of the material attracts pet hair like **crazy**!! After hanging in our office for 2 days, it was absolutely covered with cat hair--and the cats never got on or even near the coat; it merely attracted hair from the air. What's more, it was not easy to remove the hair with a lint roller. This was another dealbreaker--who wants to spend this much money on a coat to then look like you work on a farm? Apparently this problem can be somewhat alleviated if you take the time to wax the coat yourself, which is a tedious process, one I don't want to have to do for a coat this pricey.

Great, versatile, jacket for Chicago weather. For reference I’m 6’1” 185lbs with a 43 chest and a 33 waist and the large fits perfect. There is a draw string at the waist that allows you to tailor the waist to your liking and the bi-swing back helps with ease of movement. I tried on this jacket two years ago and the large was too big everywhere and the medium was too tight. Barbour apparently tailored the fit.

Even bettter looking than pictured, the jacket, not me. 5'11", 165 lbs, medium is perfect. I probably should have known more about care and handling of waxed cotton. Can only wet wipe down, no soap of dry cleaning. Wax can contaminate other fabrics, especially if stored in contact in high temperatures. Even so, I do not intend to wear this to mend fences, so it is a keeper.

This jacket runs large but it is a great jacket. Waterproof, warm, and handsome. It is well made and should last a while.

Warm and dry I love this jacket. Fits great and tight but has enough room to layer. Not too long and easy to work in. High quality and a manufacturer warranty that lasts a lifetime. They will do whatever it takes to ensure this jacket lasts and works as intended forever.
