Zipper and safety issue
My 2019 Patera Parka jacket had a durable zipper slider, small chain/teeth and metal zipper-end stop lock; this new one from 2025 design uses cheap, rough-feeling plastic zipper end stop lock with a chain that snags easily. The most critical failure is the removal of the under-zipper fabric guard. This means the zipper is constantly exposed, catching on skin or clothes, which is unsafe and dramatically reduces the jacket's lifespan.
While the fit and warmth are exceptional, the faulty, fragile zipper makes this a significant risk. Until the core durability issue and safety flaws are addressed, I cannot recommend purchasing this coat.

Hello there, thank you for sharing such a detailed review of the Patera Parka. We’re glad the fit and warmth meet your expectations, but we understand your concerns about the zipper construction and the removal of the fabric guard. Design details like these directly affect comfort, safety, and long‑term durability, and we understand how disappointing it is when they don’t align with the level of quality you expect. Your feedback will be passed along to our product team as part of ongoing improvements, and we truly value your perspective in helping refine future designs.

Poor zipper quality
The zipper on my jacket splits from the bottom any time slight pressure is applied. It has done this from day one. Very disappointed in the quality for the price. I do find the jacket warm, but not overly warm.

Warm & waterproof but poor durability & zipper
Half of me wants to give this parka 5*: in snow or wintry rain, this jacket keeps me warm and sheltered walking my dog during the winter. The other half of me gives the parka 1*: the zipper has always been sticky but for most of this winter it won’t unzip. I’ve been stepping in and out of the jacket like a sleeping bag. Yesterday, the middle of the zipper burst open and won’t zip. For the price, I expected much better durability.

Hi there, thank you so much for sharing your review of your Patera Parka. We’re glad to hear it’s kept you warm and dry during winter walks with your dog, but we’re sorry to hear that you're encountering a zipper issue, especially the zipper separating from the middle, and the difficulty in opening the jacket. We understand how important it is to have a functional main zipper, and this is not the experience we want for you. If the main zipper continues to split open or won’t operate smoothly, we encourage you to submit a Product Service Request. Our team would be happy to assess what’s happening and assist you further. You can start the process here: https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/help/product-service/service-request. Your feedback is incredibly valuable, and we’ve shared it with our design team to help improve future products. Thank you again for taking the time to leave a review.

Needs waist cinch!!!
I definitely would have kept this coat if it had a waist cinch. Loved the insulation plus gore-tex. BUT, not only is it a bit shapeless, cold air leaks in a bit because it’s loose in the wrong places.
If next year’s version has a waist cinch, I would definitely buy and keep.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on the Patera Parka. We're happy to hear you loved the insulation and GORE‑TEX protection that this parka features, but we’re sorry that the fit and lack of a waist cinch didn’t work for you. Your comments about the shaping and the addition of a waist cinch have been passed along to our team for consideration in future iterations. Feedback like yours is incredibly valuable and helps us improve our products, so thank you again for sharing your experience.

Insulation
I bought this jacket for cold winter weather, but I’m really disappointed with it. It’s only down -insulated up to the upper part of the body, and the lower part, below the waist, isn’t down-insulated at all. The quality of archery’s has also declined compared to the past.

Hello Lyon, thank you for sharing your experience with the Patera Parka, and we’re sorry to hear the insulation didn’t meet your expectations for full‑length warmth. The Patera uses our Down Composite Mapping™ construction, which places down where maximum heat retention is needed and uses synthetic insulation in areas more exposed to moisture, such as the lower hem. This design helps maintain warmth while preventing the down from becoming compromised in wet conditions, but we understand how it can feel unexpected if you were anticipating down throughout the entire length of the parka. We truly appreciate your feedback, as it helps us continue refining both performance and comfort across our designs.

Practical for rain if not very warm or elegant
This is not a warm coat. It is practical for London where it is not so cold in winter but it is not cozy or warm and I am not even sure it is 100% waterproof. The outer is supposed to be GoreTex but it collects water on the surface, making it quite heavy. Water seems to cenetrate cuffs and with the hood up, water seem to flow through the front of the coat...The fit is nt elegant, there is no possibility to cinch at the waist, and in L there is extra material under the shoulders and around top of sleeve at the back...Hopefully it is practical enough to cope with the rain, wind and the London temperatures if layered properly. But more down insulation would be welcome - Arcteryx has skimped on down & insulation. it is quite light so could be worn prob October - March/April, but gets heavier when it rains...A little bit disappointing - bought in outlet with extra 20% discount, so not so very expensive...but would not buy full price...

Hello Polly, thank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and honest review. We’re sorry to hear that the Patera Parka hasn’t met your expectations so far. It’s completely understandable to feel disappointed when a coat doesn’t deliver the warmth, fit, or weather protection you were hoping for, especially in wet and windy conditions. To help clarify a bit, the outer fabric is designed to shed water, but when the DWR (durable water repellent) begins to wear down, moisture can start to sit on the surface instead of beading off. A simple wash followed by a heat‑activated drying cycle can often restore that beading, and reapplying DWR periodically helps maintain performance in sustained rain. The Patera is also synthetically insulated, which is chosen for its ability to stay warm even when damp, though it offers a different feel and loft compared to down. We truly appreciate your feedback on warmth, fit, and overall performance. Insights like yours will be shared with our product teams as we continue to refine our designs.
