Angel by Mugler Natural Refillable Spray

A stranger in another state (where I was staying with grandchildren) was wearing this fragrance =- which was LOVELY. I approached this young lady and asked her if she would be offended if I asked her about her fragrance. She was delightful and told me about "ANGEL" and that I could find it at Nordstroms. Before leaving the store this wonderful young lady had looked through her purse to find a sample of the fragrance she said was "nearly gone" and gave it to me to try. I love it and will forever appreciate this young woman and her kindness. ANGEL will always remind me of the kindness of strangers and a fragrance that is memorable.

Launched in 1992, Angel has always been a divisive fragrance. One glance at the 'love' or 'hate' reviews over on Fragrantica or Basenotes should be enough to convince you that the words 'blind purchase' and 'Angel' do not belong in the same sentence! I first discovered this in the late 90's after smelling 'A Men' - the men's version of this fragrance on a work colleague. The unusual blend of Patchouli, tar, caramel and other sweet notes was the most intoxicating, head-turning fragrance I'd ever smelt on a man, it wasn't remotely like anything I'd smelt before. That was on a mid-week. Fast forward to that same weekend, the highlight of my day off was to get my hands on a tester for 'Angel', the female version of this scent. One spritz, a short walk around the store and I was back to purchase the bottle. Have been wearing this on and off ever since. At its heart it's not overly dissimilar to the men's version, the Patchouli is still the predominant note, in fact the initial blast is pure Patchouli to my nose with an undercurrent of chocolate. After a few minutes I get fruit and musk, and finally the dry down...Patchouli mixed in with caramel, vanilla and tonka. The musk in here smells similar to the musk that used to appear in older fragrances from the 80's which you don't find in fragrances any longer. Overall Angel is a very distinctive fragrance that is never once run of the mill or generic, even all these years later. By the same token that also makes it instantly recognizable. If you wear this, most people will know exactly what you are wearing, despite the fact that it smells slightly different to my nose on every person I walk past who wears this (less and less common nowadays). I have worn Angel since the 1990s. It had long lasting power and the fragrance notes that stood out were the chocolate, cotton candy, vanilla. I would spray it on and the fragrance would last all day +. The New formula (which was changed since L'Oreal purchased Mugler and ruined it) does not last more than a few hours (if that) and the chocolate/vanilla is no more) It is more citrus. It is now a knock-off. I wish they would have discontinued Angel instead of creating a dupe that the company passes off as the real thing. I am very disappointed that I have lost a fragrance that I once LOVED.

I believe this is a fragrance that you either like, very, very much, or not at all. There's no in between with Angel. Once it's sprayed, it stays with you until you bath it away. There is no fragrance I've ever worn that has brought more comments and compliments my way. I wear Angel mostly in the fall and winter, but it's a year-round frangrance, certainly. At work during the holidays, I had to write down the name of this frangrance for 6 men who just had to get it for their wives! All 6 of them did, in fact, go to Nordstrom and Angel went under the tree for the woman each spends the most time with! It's an enchanting, unique fragrance that sets any woman apart from the crowd. IT'S WONDERFUL!!
