Look - Shoes look great, as you probably can see. However, pictures can be deceiving and this is not the case. In person, the quality of the shoe is apparent in real life.
Laces - Thin leather laces look and feel great. I will be interest to see how long they hold up.
Breaking In - Took about 2 times of wearing these to break them in. First couple of times resulted in some ginger walking. However, they now feel amazing.

Worst quality from Allen Edmonds
I purchased AE Carlyle directly from AE. The first pair had defective leather top, the same happened also for the replacement pair. Although the 2nd replacement (3rd pair) still had leather defects, I selected to keep it as the defects not so visible and I was tired of the repeated procedure of taking the shoes back to the store and waiting to pick up the replacement after several weeks.
As my 6-7 years old AE shoes are still in great shape, I have not put this new pair to use for several months. Last weekend I attended a party wearing my new pair of Carlyle. After walking in New York City for less than an hour (mainly across the central park twice), I found the tip of the sole had been worn down for about 10%. Then I checked my 6-7 year old pair of AE shoes and the whole sole has not been worn down by 2% in any place.
Ironically I tried to post this review at AE website on the webpage for this particular shoes. However AE selected to ignore my review and did not post it. They just don't like bad reviews of their products.
Allen Edmonds was sold in 2006, then sold again in 2013. No wonder its quality has been in steady decline.

cheap, crumby, unremarkable
This shoe is grossly over priced and cheap looking. The look and feel of the shoe is very disappointing and reminds me of Bostonian. It is made of low quality leather and is just plain unremarkable. Never pay over a 125 bucks for a shoe with a rubber sole. If a shoe has an all leather sole and is still extremely comfortable than it is well made. Any piece of junk with a rubber sole can be comfortable so don't pay up. I have been hunting for a pair of black lace up oxfords for the last six months and it looks like I am going to have to look outside of Nordstrom because the selection just isn't there. Allen Edmonds needs to step up there game and Nordstrom has to expand there selection. There are plenty of high quality oxfords out there that fall between the prices of Dolce & Gabanna and Allen Edmonds that put both designers to shame. Keep hunting.

Great Shoe

Amazing shape and comfort
These new AE Carlyle shoes make my feet look narrow!!! I have a wide right foot that has always forced me to go wider on shoes. Often, higher end shoes like AE are a little more narrow. Sometimes going wider on such nice shoes which have a beautiful narrow look cause the shoes to lose those same flowing lines because the extra width flattens out the profile. These shoes, albeit in E width, look no different than the regular D width, and yet my feet are so comfortable. I love these shoes!!!

Quality extraordinaire
I purchased this shoe for my high school graduation at the newly opened Nordstrom at The Mall of San Juan in Puerto Rico and 'till this day I continue feeling in love with this oxford. The quality is amazing, it's confortable and it looks beautiful when worn. I even preferred this shoe than some of my other shoes from Italian brands. Therefore, I highly recommend this particular oxford and any other shoe from Allen Edmonds.
