Responsible Materials
For over 100 years, we’ve worked to deliver best-in-class customer experiences. Today, that includes using materials that help meet growing demand for responsible consumption. To align with customer expectations, our goal is to source 75% of the key materials in Nordstrom Made products sustainably.
How We Choose Materials
Nordstrom “responsible materials” are often natural, use less water and fewer harmful chemicals, or are made from recycled content. They also tend to align with higher supply chain transparency and labor rights standards, meaning when we use these materials, we also support the people making them.
The “responsible materials” we source include:
- Organic and recycled cotton, and cotton supporting Better Cotton
- Recycled polyester
- Sustainably sourced wood-based fibers
- Animal-based materials like cashmere, alpaca, wool and down*
* Included as “responsible materials’’ only when they are certified as responsibly sourced and upholding strong animal welfare standards.
The Good Cashmere Standard
In 2024, Nordstrom became a partner of The Good Cashmere Standard ®. Established by the Aid by Trade Foundation, The Good Cashmere Standard ® provides access to independently verified cashmere that has been produced in line with clear sustainability and animal welfare criteria. A global leader in more responsible cashmere production, the standard aims to protect the welfare of cashmere goats, conserve the environment, ensure decent farm working conditions and promote supply chain transparency.
