Glossy Stain Lip Color

This product is the best; #15 is my favorite! It has the great smooth texture of a gloss (but not a sticky one) and the staying power of a stain. I put it on once at 10am and then touched up at 3pm and my lips stayed beautiful and hydrated (even while eating and talking) all day/night. I would probably steer clear of the lighter colors (#18 & #19) because they don't work as well but all the others are great. Also, for really good results I added a clear lib balm (Jack Black) an hour or so after applying the glossy stain.

I purchased color #28 Grenat Acrylique. This is nice brick red (not a blue red) that can be subtle or more intense - it all depends on the application. This is not a neutral. I have read that this color is only available at Nordstrom - but I cannot say that with absolute certainty. I have used many different types of lip stains - from the most expensive (i.e. YSL) to drugstore brands. While the glossiness of this product can become dull after awhile - the stain remained on my lips until late in the afternoon before I had to do a touch up. Buying make-up of any kind online is a challenge to say the least.....that is why I try to describe the color for those that might not have the opportunity to test it at a store. [For a more casual natural color I wear #7 it is a more neutral coral with definite pink tones.]

I have several of these but this time purchase the number 13 rose tempura which is a really pretty pink undertoned red. You really don't need too much of this or it will get goopy, applying a thin layer evenly letting it dry and then topping it with the second coat is the best way to go I've found to show good pigment and have it last long.

This review is firstly for #1, a violet/purple color. It is definitely violet and I am not sure about the color for myself as a forever lipstick, but it's the big color this fall so I can handle it. Having said that, I also have #2 brun, #5 vintage rose, and #8 rouge lacque. This gloss/stain is phenomenal. I even tried wearing it to bed one night (only as a test!!! for 8 hours) and it was still holding in the morning. It doesn't even grab onto the edge of a white styrofoam cup of coffee that you are drinking. That's more proof of what good holding power this product features. I personally don't find it drying to my lips, and I do have vertical liplines. I don't need to use a lipliner with it either. I don't think I'll ever buy anything else. I'm over 55, and to have to be constantly reapplying lipstick just "feels" silly to me.

I was really excited to try this product because I love their Volupte Sheer Candy Glossy Balm Crystal Color, and I loved the idea/formula of Maybelline's SuperStay 10 HR Stain Gloss. I figured YSL's Glossy Stain would be the best of both worlds. I have to say that I really liked this formula, but I'm not sure it was better than the Maybelline Stain Gloss. It had nice staying power for the stain, but the gloss was gone faster (still lasting a good amount of time). I love that YSL offers a beautiful range of shades, because I'm not a bright/vibrant or dark color type of gal when it comes to lip stains and that was one complaint about the Maybelline Stain Glosses. I want something more wearable for everyday, especially if it's long wearing! Unfortunately, I didn't like this shade (Rose Vinyl) all that much. It's very pretty on its own, but on me I wasn't feeling it. In the photos of me wearing the color on my lips it does look nicer than I think it looks in person. I ended up returning this and I plan to try another shade in the future. I have my eyes on #7, #12 and #19, but I want to see them in person first so I don't have to buy and return shades and can pick the right one. Overall, I did rate this gloss a 4 out of 5 because I like the formula and the shades they offer, but this particular shade did not work for me. It may be your perfect shade!

I recently purchased #30 which is a mauve color. I was skeptical at first, I thought it would look too purple. As soon as I put it on, I fell in love! Such a beautiful color. It doesn't go with everything, but I like to wear it when I'm going out. It has a fantastic shine and lasts a good amount of time. Smells nice too.
