tight waist
For reference, I am 5'2", 102 pounds, usually wear an xsm. I ordered a small because this item is 100% cotton and could shrink. I am 26 in the waist. The waist is very tight but the legs and hips are nice and roomy. I wish I had ordered a medium even if it ran a little more roomier in the legs and hips as it would have been more comfortable in the waist. I haven't washed them yet and I hope they don't shrink because the waist will be too tight to wear comfortably. I ordered the dark gray and on the plus side the fabric feels nice and soft and I don't have to hem them. Hope this helps.
