Watermelon, but for your face.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I felt it was time to change up my facial cleansing routine a bit, so I bought this cleanser and makeup remover. Delivery was very fast - it arrived only a couple of days after I bought it, so 10/10 on delivery speed definitely!
I started to use it the next morning. As I don't wear makeup very often I can't comment on how good a makeup remover it is. In appearance, it looks a lot like The Ordinary's AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution, but a brighter red (rather like the inside of a watermelon), however, you don't leave it on your skin like you do with the product from The Ordinary. I was a little surprised to find that it didn't smell like watermelon. I mean, the packaging doesn't say it does so maybe it shouldn't have surprised me. One very important point about this is that it contains alpha and beta hydroxy acids (AHA and BHA), so you do run an increased chance of photosensitivity (getting a skin reaction when you go out in sunlight after use) and you are recommended to use a sunscreen on your face. I did think that this fact should maybe have been printed in bold on the packaging to draw more attention to it (I have a habit of sitting and reading everything on product packaging and that's how I found it).
Now, here's the bit you might be reading this review for, how much I liked it and how much it suited my skin! I did like the product at first as it made my skin feel very clean and soft. Unfortunately, that effect didn't seem to last for very long and after a few days my skin started feeling quite greasy. That might be down to the fact that because of the hydroxy acids in it it was removing the dead cells on the surface of the skin on my face, which as well as the cleansing action, it's designed to do that, helping skin to look brighter. I used it for about three weeks altogether, so it's not like I didn't persevere and give it a really good go. However, as well as the greasy feeling I developed a horrible breakout on my chin and left cheek of some really huge spots. I was making sure I rinsed my skin really well when washing it off, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't that. Due to this breakout and also the spots being really sore, I had to stop using it and go back to the product I'd been using before it. This was really unfortunate, as it did say on the packaging that it could help to control breakouts. But even though it had this effect on my skin, it doesn't mean to say that it will have the same effect with everyone that uses it and if you try it on the strength of my review and it suits you, all power to you.
