It began at 1 pm on Thursday, December 4th. At the Columbus Circle, NYC, NY location, Store #4340, Transaction 5010. I see a sign in the window indicating a 25% off sale. From Nashville, I needed a pair of dark slacks for an event I was attending later that afternoon. Quickly, I found the slacks in my size, brought them to the register, and was told the sale price reduction didn't apply. Fine. I arrived back at my hotel to dress for the event when I found a security tag still attached to the slacks, preventing me from wearing them to the event. I called the store while I was getting ready for the event to find out how I could remove the security tag myself. I was told I needed to return to the store that there was nothing they could do except to better train their sales staff. No price compensation, no way they could send someone out to my hotel to fix the problem. Nothing, and I was out of time. Today, back I Nashville with more than an hour's drive back back and forth, I went to the Nordstrom in Green Hills, where I set off the security screen entering the store with the slacks. Same story, nothing they could do to compensate the customer, but they did say if that had happened here in Nashville, they could have sent someone out. My family was in the high-end men's clothing manufacturing business for nearly 100 years. My grandparents are all gone, but I am certain that if a retailer treated one of their customers with such disrespect stemming from a mistake the retailer made, that would be the end of the product line's availability for that retailer.
