Odd material

I wanted to like this dress since I love the style, but the material looks and feels exactly like thick cotton stretchy leggings. It's also a bit itchy and would probably get hot. I bought it to wear to a black tie optional wedding, but I don't think it will work because of the material, so I'm returning.
