Mountain Pass Waterproof Jacket

After sixteen years it came time to finally replace my winter hard shell, and I decided I wanted something a little classier with less need for layering. Luckily after a bunch of searching I found the Mountain Pass Jacket, and it truly is a nearly perfect winter jacket. The overall materials, design, and craftsmanship are superb, it's water and windproof, the insulation is very, very warm without being overly bulky, the sleeves are a great length, the zipper is high quality, and there is no annoying Velcro to be found. And the dark olive color is beautiful, very much like a sage green. Small improvements I think would be worthwhile: - I really like the double-entry pockets, but their internal shapes should be adjusted. As another reviewer noted, the side hand pockets should have more of a belly or cradle to them to keep items more secure. As they are currently designed, items have a higher chance of falling out than they should. The outer, buttoned pockets are of course available to secure items, but they are arguably too deep, making it a little tricky to retrieve small things like keys. - The hood is insulated and a perfect fit without a hat on, but with a stocking cap on it's just a touch too small, which causes it and the jacket to ride up a little. Adjusting the size and cut ever so slightly would alleviate this. - Slightly more articulation in the arms would be nice. - I would like to see the jacket's shell material extended to the exterior of the collar for that extra bit of wind protection on blustery days. All that being said, this is truly an exceptional jacket and well worth consideration. Time will tell if it is durable, but at least at the moment I am a very happy customer.
