Velvet Orchid Eau de Parfum

I'm a huge Tom Ford fragrance fan, though I must admit, Black Orchid was somewhat of a disappointment. It's a great fragrance, but it's too indolent: it falls back into itself, on some level. Velvet Orchid is closer to what I imagined Black Orchid might be. This is one of the best fragrances Tom Ford's created, in my opinion. I read a popular fragrance blog review of Velvet Orchid, and the expert claims that Velvet Orchid isn't as sheer as Black Orchid. I disagree, and that's what makes this fragrance much better. It's both dense and sheer, and you'd have to smell it next to Black Orchid to understand that bit of paradox. Is it a nose full of old world oriental, full of all kinds of exotic and over the top notes. Yep. But by removing many of Black Orchids indoles, Ford's fragrance group have managed to create the perfect offspring to Black Orchid. An analogy. Velvet Orchid is to Black Orchid, what Coco is to Chanel Number Five. If you know your Chanel fragrances, you'll know exactly what I mean . . .
