This is not for beginners...
There are a lot of negative reviews of this palette and I know exactly why, but I also think those negative reviews aren't entirely fair. Tom Ford quads are quite pricey and gorgeous to look at, but they don't have the simplest application. These shades (and all his quads with TF embossed in the shades) are a wet/dry formula. They swatch really well with fingers because that distributes a concentrated amount of pigment. However, if you try applying these dry with a fluffy brush, you won't get very far and will get patchy results. I use my Sonia G. worker and builder brushes with these, as well as her dense crease brush. Pick up a lot of pigment and then blend away easily. If you want an even more opaque finish, pick up the shadow on a dense brush and then spritz it with something like MAC Fix+ or even water. It applies beautifully, stays put and lasts all day. This colourstory isn't too far off from TF's Honeymoon and Body Heat quads, but I find these shades to be more neutral and very much more wearable. When I apply the Cranberry shade dry, it skews more brown, but applying it wet really brings out the rich red tones.
If you're coming from something like Anastasia or Urban Decay, this is a whole different animal. You need really good brushes, a precise application and a bit of extra effort. Which, of course, might not be for everyone, but I think this is one of his strongest quads yet.

Poor quality shadows
I normally use NARS, Glossier, and Anastasia eye shadows, but wanted to try a TF palette. The colors are gorgeous, but the shadows are very disappointing. Patchy, not very pigmented, difficult to blend, creasing 2 hrs after application (I use UD eye shadow primer). This performs worse than drugstore. Not sure if this is what all Tom Ford eyeshadows are like, or if this "limited edition" palette was cranked out with much less consideration for the purposes of the Anniversary Sale. Either way, I've definitely lost interest in any other TF eye palettes and will seek out color dupes from my trusted NARS and Anastasia (whose shadows do. Not. Budge.).
The (mini, very mini - not sure it's worth the extra $39 "value" but they were still free so OK) lipsticks are lovely, though. I plan to purchase a full size of Casablanca when the time comes.

Pretty Good
I have most of TF eyeshadow quads, so a lot to compare this latest release to. Like many, I thought I’d find dupes in Suspicion, Body Heat, Virgin Orchid, or even Honeymoon, but they are not a match. Although the gold and brown colors in Cognac Rose are not unique enough to warrant this purchase, I could not dupe the dark ‘cranberry’ color. So you know, that color reads as a very dark mauve on my skin tone (yellow/neutral), nearly a brown. This palette is neutral and has enough contrast to stand alone, which is what I look for in a palette. I did not find the colors patchy as some have noted, but I did use Too Faced shadow insurance as a primer first. This is not a ‘wow!’ Purchase, but a ‘it’s nice’ purchase. Any other neutral palette out there with some shimmers would give you the same vibe. I collect these, so I’m keeping it. Most Tom Ford eyeshadow quads are the best product for more mature eyes (I’m nearly 52), bar none. There are duds in the line, and I’ve returned those, but this is not one of them. The lipsticks were new to my collection, and I like both colors—although I don’t think either was an ideal pairing for this palette’s color story.

Love color combo...why only mini lipsticks?
Love these colors and the shadow didn't disappoint. I was surprised to see the super tiny lipsticks in here. When going up against all the other anniversary make up specials, it would have been more prudent to just put the full size in here.

Cognac Rose
This TF Set contains an eyeshadow quad in TF’s wet/dry baked gelée formula and two mini lipsticks. I find the eyeshadows to be excellent, in line with all the other quads in the line I have bought in this formula. While there are some similarities in the colors to other TF quads like Honeymoon or Body Heat, Cognac Rose is definitely no dupe for those quads. As a fan and collector of the eyeshadow palettes in the line, in particular the baked gelée compacts, I did not hesitate to order this. In my opinion, the shadows are of outstanding quality, they blend beautifully and don’t crease or fade on me. I’m not sure if this quad was shipped in in different batches or varying quality, but I can say for sure that the quad I received performs flawlessly and I’m very satisfied with this purchase.
