Out of box experience misses the point
No better reminder of the high standards set by Apple and Tesla. I feel so pampered with wonderful "it just works" out of the box experience.
When I opened my Tissot, there was a lot of fancy high cost cardboard packaging, including pop-up art. How nice. But the time was wrong, and the date was wrong. I know this is typical for watches, but when I'm paying this kind of price, I would like to open the box and know immediately that it will keep time. I understand that timezone logistics make this challenging, but it would be a nice gesture if the date was right, the minute was right, and the hour was within three hours.
The bigger problem though was adjusting the band length in my precious hours the night before I needed to wear it. It has these impressively tiny pins which lock the links to together, and no instructions. So you go on youtube, and the guy has a nice watchmaker tool to do the adjustment. Even Ikea includes an allen wrench in the box. But Tissot? Apparently 170 years is not enough to figure that one out. So instead of packing, I spent my evening hammering away on my new watch with a 3lb ball peen hammer and a pushpin borrowed from some artwork, just hoping I wasn't going to scratch or destroy it.
Looks good though.
