The New Yorker's Chess Set
PRINTWORKS
Details & care
In 2025, The New Yorker marks a century of shaping culture and design since its founding in 1925. To celebrate this iconic milestone, Printworks partnered with the magazine to create a limited-edition chess set that captures the vibrant spirit of New York City in a playful and artistic tribute. The chess pieces have been reimagined as symbols of New York City’s vibrant culture: The ever-watchful Statue of Liberty serves as the Queen, pigeons take on the role of Knights and the yellow cabs that zip through the city streets are cleverly transformed into Pawns. The Chess Set is illustrated by Christoph Niemann, a recurring contributor to The New Yorker.
