The SB version is the superior build of the Tennis Classic
The sneaker is what it is. I love the idea of an affordable, simple sneaker billed as a leather construction, but after the first wear it was abundantly clear that this is a synthetic leather through and through. (There was also a sticker inside confirming the synthetic, removing all doubt.) It's bothersome to me that Nike uses carefully worded descriptions in the shoe details to obfuscate the type of materials used for the shoe, and you have to get a feel, often through trial and error, for how to translate the marketing into real world facts. Just tell us it's not real leather so we can decide with eyes wide open. There's nothing wrong with the shoe...comfortable and attractive for what it is. But the synthetic leather bends and creases in unnatural spots, and no matter how often Nike describes a shoe as "leather that breaks in for a vintage look," that dog just don't hunt. This is a shoe that you will wear for a couple seasons and throw out. Stick to the SB versions of the tennis classics - they tend to use a real leather and will give you a well-worn look that you're hoping for. Or don't. Buy what you like, it's your money.
