Janelle Waterproof Coat

I’ve been reading reviews (almost all 5 stars!) about this coat on their UK website, and decided to splurge on myself. It is lightweight yet insulated, and the length comes to the back of my knees. I’m 5’5”, 135 lbs, generally size 6 in most garments, 27”-28” jeans, and small chested. I bought the US8/UK12 and found it perfect everywhere, sleeves just right, love the snaps, two way zipper and zippered pockets, with room to layer. When I say lightweight, it truly is, unlike some brands that tout that, but end up being bulky and heavy. Someone petite may find it too long and overwhelming. Can’t wait to wear it when temps dip and rain falls!

I'm new to this British brand and am very impressed with this coat. It is expensive, but I expect it to last me at least five years. The pros: warm, fleecy, soft lining that makes it perfect for spring, fall, and winter weather in the Northeast. The exterior has a pleasing matte finish (I can't abide a shiny raincoat), and the "squid ink blue" is a lovely grayed-out navy that's soft and flattering for my fair, neutral-toned complexion. The details are thoughtful: I appreciate the ample pockets, quality zipper, higher neck (for keeping the wind out), and well-fitting hood. It's perfect for dog walks or errands on nasty days. The only negative: sizing. I'm 5'8" and 125 lbs., with an athletic figure, and I typically take a 6 US, so I ordered the 6 US/10 UK. However, I found it too tight around the shoulders and back, and although this coat is warm on its own, I still wanted the option of layering underneath it. So I sized up to the US 8/UK 12 to accommodate my shoulders. I've run into this sizing issue with Barbour coats as well (maybe British women have narrower shoulders?). If you're like me and have an athletic figure, consider sizing up. I'm glad I did--it's a lovely, practical, and cozy raincoat. I give it five stars despite the sizing issue.

Bunk! I wanted this coat to be a mustardy gold/yellow but it more khaki green. Also it’s very narrow in the sleeves. The length of sleeves was great (I have long arms) but they were very slim, I wouldn’t have been able to comfortably wear a medium to heavy sweater underneath. It has to go back.

I needed a coat for winter travel to Poland and Prague. Yes, I was asking it to fill a lot of needs, warmth, not bulky, classic style, and waterproof! This coat met most of those needs, but it is NOT waterproof! That made for very miserable touring on a cold rainy day, as I ended up wet to the bone and shivering. If I hadn’t needed that feature, and it wasn’t so definitively proclaimed, I would give it 5 stars because it met my other requirements nicely!

Exactly what I was looking for! Warm, but not overly hot like down can get. It is also waterproof which is perfect for rainy winter days. I did check the company website to find my perfect size by using the measurement chart. I actually took one size down from my usual coat size with some room for light layers.
