You mentioned using Nikwax products, which is a great step, but if the face fabric has already wetted out significantly, it can sometimes indicate a need for a more thorough reactivation of the DWR (durable water repellent) or, in some rare cases, a warranty-worthy issue with the membrane or seam tape. It's built to be lightweight, packable, and comfortable for everything from day hikes to travel, but it should still stand up to steady rain.
