Supergoop makes great sunscreens but this one (and probably the rest in this line; I didn't check all of them) are not reef - or environmentally - safe. Avobenzone and Octisalate are endocrine disruptors that, well, disrupt your endocrine system, and those of other animals (e.g., estrogen, testosterone, and vital hormones in almost any gland or organ you own). Avobenzone is absorbed into your body even after just one use. Leaving environmental concerns aside for a moment, I would never use a sunscreen with these ingredients on a child or a young person simply because of the hormone disruption will build up over time. The environmental effects are pervasive and hazardous to life. As far as I can tell, at this time the only truly reef- and environment-safe sunscreen ingredients are titanium and zinc oxides. I like to be solution-oriented, but admit that the choices at the moment are difficult; we need to protect ourselves and our habitat. There have been great improvements with the white cast associated with the mineral sun blocks, but many people still find them problematic - especially people of color (not a problem for me as my legs glow in the dark). I mix my mineral-based Coola 50spf with some lotion (don't tell anyone!) since the difference between 30 and 50 is not that impressive. Also: clothing. There are some great options for light weight, high spf clothing that doesn't look like you are hiking in the desert. The Environmental Working Group website is an excellent resource that helps to cut through some of the confusion. I apologize if I seem preachy here - I know everyone doesn't want to do a deep dive into this stuff - but it's important. I hope this helps with your choices!
