Great for wind
From the mountains of Colorado to the windy streets of Chicago in November. This jacket has been a mainstay for me whenever the temps begin to dip below 30 and I need to protect myself from the wind and snow. The modularity of the jacket lets you wear the soft liner as a standalone or just the shell for wind resistance. I'd take this as a solid jacket system for something to wear to the office if you feel so inclined. I'd probably keep the goretex in your pack for if it's really rainy.

Not warm
The purpose of a 3 in 1 jacket is so you can adjust the layers based on the conditions. This jacket falls way short of that. The inner jacket has absolutely no insulation. I really don't see wearing this jacket in temperatures below 40 degrees for any length of time unless you are moving or layer, which is sort of the point of a 3 in 1. I also don't see ever just wearing the inner jacket since it isn't going to provide any more warmth than then outer jacket on its own and the outer jacket is waterproof/windproof. Definitely not worth the price tag. I've worn 3 in 1 jackets from another outdoor brand for over 20 years and I now I'm wondering why I switched brands. Very disappointed.

Hi Phil, We are sorry that this jacket has not me your expectations for warmth. We will pass this feedback to our product team. If you need assistance, please contact customer service at info@outdoorreserach.com
We should note that the Foray Gore-Tex 3-in-1 is intended to provide rain and weather protection and added warmth when needed. The 60g synthetic insulated liner jacket provides added insulation, but the combination of the outer and inner parts are still less warm than a robust winter parka like the Stormcraft Down Parka or a down puffy jacket like the Coldfront Down Hoodie.

Not worth the high price
I like the fit. Long sleeves and body length. However the quality of this is questionable considering the price. Before I even took it out the package I thought they shipped me the wrong thing because the package was so thin and light. The insulation on the down jacket insert is super thin. I would have expected to be filled about 4 times more. It’s comparable to a sweatshirt that you would wear on a fall day. Then the outer shell is just a super basic rain jacket, with no extra pockets, and super thin material that seems like it would tear or snag on a hike through the woods. I have a $20 rain jacket from a discount big box store that has a more durable thicker outer shell. OR should be ashamed of themselves for selling this jacket at this price.

Nice jacket except for the zipper
Jacket is nice in general, great fit for me (usually large is too baggy and medium is a bit too snug, but medium in this jacket fit great on me). Very comfortable for Portland winters, will probably be fine down to about 30 degrees. Only downside is for a $400 jacket the zipper is garbage. I have yet to be able to zip it up without taking a few tries to adjust it just so, and it feels very chintzy when i am able to get it to work - I honestly don’t see it lasting much more than a season. Considering returning it for that reason.

Great wind blockage, waterproofing
In this competitive range of coats there are better options at this price point, but not many.

30 years in -40+ weather.
I have seen some negetive reviews about the inner jacket not being warm enough for any sort of cold weather. That's just not the case at all. The inner jacket is just fine. Up until April of 24, I spent my entire life in the midwest where it hits -30 for a minimum of 2 weeks every single year. The rest of the winter it's hovering around 0 degrees. The jacket is plenty warm. What people fail to realise is that heft and size, don't always equal warmth. The outer shell is great, it does what it's supposed to. The inner shell is extremely comfortable. It's extremely light weight, it's warm, and it holds up the way I need it to. I really couldn't ask for anything more outside of I wish I had a hood for when it's windy and I don't feel like wearing the outer shell. I love the jacket, truthfully. I've bought numerous heavy winter jackets in my life to help match the sub zero temps, this is 1 of 3 jackets I have bought that can hold up to it. As I said, I wish it had a hood, but outside of that, it's fantastic.

Great combo for light use
The waist is noticeably tighter than the rest of the jacket which is okay sometimes but it caused the jacket to bunch up when moving around. The build quality feels good and it's comfortable to wear. The zip out liner has been a nice quick run out jacket as well.
