Great shoes for wet messy conditions
I am not a runner but purchased these shoes to use on our trip to the eastern Mediterranean next January. The weather is expected to be cool, wet and we will be spending a lot of time walking on uneven pavements. I purchased for the traction, durability and waterproof features of the shoe. The winter in the central NJ has been especially brutal, and these shoes have met the challenge on the roads and trails surrounding my home. Another feature I appreciate is the speed lacing system. After 65 years I still have trouble keeping my shoes tied and the lacing system solves that problem.

Not the Condition I Expected for Full Price
I was really disappointed with how this item arrived. I purchased the Norvan 4 Nivalis Waterproof Running Shoe at full price, but the pair I received came with visible scratches, the tags were loose in the box instead of attached, and the shoes looked slightly used. The issue isn’t with the product itself, but with the way it was handled before shipping. For the price, I expected much better care and presentation from Nordstrom.

Impressive traction and fit
These are the first shoes I’ve tried from Arc’teryx and they’re impressively light and capable in all sorts of terrain, including; very steep muddy/sloppy climbs and descents in the PNW, and single digit snowy conditions in northern MN. Additionally, they’re the first technical shoe I’ve had that I’ve felt fine with wearing as a travel shoe because they’re not ugly (I tend to be a minimalist packer).
It took a minute to figure out how tight to make them (over tightened on my first 2hr trail run and got a little sore on the top of one foot, but corrected on the next one with no issue).
I’m a female with wide feet so always buy men’s shoes and these are the perfect width for me, I sized down ½ size from my usual 8.5 to 8 in these and the length is ideal. I’m consistently a 41+ EU size so the conversion in the size chart is spot on for me. I wear with a mid weight wool sock, fyi. I’m planning to use these for SAR training, too, so will be buying more when I wear these out.

No flaw
Very comfy when walking, not hot and not cold.
No need a size down or size up.
Waterproof is perfect, and very good friction with the ground
But the Lt Forage color looks way greener than on the website.

Big and tight
I expected it to fit and be comfortable like a trainer but it wasnt, Also I'm not too fond of the tight fit to put it on. Was roomy once on and fairly comfortable but not as expected. I didn't run it them as it was too much of a hassle to put on. I do love the looks and the idea of the lacing system but not practical in putting on the boot. I will be returning them but will it reconsider them if resigned. Was told to go for a larger size but as I'm a 10.5 UK size an 11 was recommended, but if I size I doubt I will ever get my foot in
arcteryx.com response
Hello there, thank you for taking the time to share this thoughtful feedback on the Norvan 4 Nivalis GTX. We're sorry to hear the fit and entry experience didn’t meet your expectations — especially when you were hoping for something closer to a trainer‑like feel. This model is designed with a snug ankle gasket to keep weather out, but we understand that can make it more challenging to put on, even when the size feels roomy once you’re in. Your comments about the lacing system, comfort, and overall practicality are incredibly valuable, and we appreciate your honesty. Since you were recommended a UK 11, we understand your hesitation about sizing up further if entry is already difficult. We hope you’ll reconsider the Norvan line if it’s redesigned in the future — feedback like yours plays an important role in how our teams evolve our footwear.

Extremely good looking and very comfortable shoes
Did tried them twice already. Super comfy shoes and good grip. Haven't tested waterproof yet. In dry condition at -5 works very good. Both in frozen surface and a bit losse in the forest. Isolating good from cold and keep feets warm. Easy to put on the shoes. Don't listen ppl complaining on that. Seen many reviews like that and I was afraid of that but it went on very easy. Once it´s on it adapts to the foot and is pleasant to run. Much room on the front of the shoes. I advice to buy halve size smaller. I had to exchange one pair due to the size. Easy to clean. I have black and white and it seams to be durable and easy to maintain.
