Over the Calf Wool Socks

For some reason it is impossible to find wool, over the calf men's dress socks at a reasonable price. Lands End used to make excellent ones, but it looks like they discontinued them. I had high hopes for these. They run very large; I wear a size 14 shoe, and I was swimming in the XL's. The Large fit me pretty well, but the seam over the tops of my toes is bad. All sorts of sock manufacturers make seamless socks now, I'm not sure why these are still made this way. The seam is very prominent and irritates my toes when I wear the socks with dress shoes.

I am a frugal individual, but appreciate value and quality. While paying over $10 a pair for dress socks initially pains me, these socks are worth every penny. First, they come in sizes, which is unusual for dress socks, so they fit perfectly. Second, I have large calves, and these socks easily fit over my calves without stopping my circulation. Third, and finally, they last forever.

These socks are fantastic but caution: they run a bit large and some say (but I do not) they are a bit too long. I wear a 10.5 or 11 shoe. Per the graph that should be a large. But the large is just a bit too long for me. Still, since I bought nine pair, I am keeping them as all have been worn. They did not shrink quite as much as I thought they might. Next time I will buy the medium. As to the length, if you are sick and tired of having to pull up your sagging "knee high" socks, these will put that problem to an end. They do run a bit on the long side but for sure they are never ever going to fall down on you. They are exceptionally comfortable as well with subtle patterns on them. I am going to buy 9 more pair but in medium.

I bought three pairs recently. Between them being on sale and having different sizes available, figured they were worth a try. I bought them in Small as I have a men's size 7 1/2 foot. While a better fit than one-size-fits-all socks, the sock heel was still a bit past the heel of my foot. They are advertised as being over-the-calf, and I would say they are more like over-the-knee. They are so long! I am guessing that they are made to be folded over as I find it hard to imagine that they are made for tall men with small feet. Last, the socks are fairly wide, meaning that the seam across the toes are too wide. I have found that they dig into the sides of my toes. They may fit others better than me, but I doubt I'll be buying any more of these.
