Great pants with good, comfortable fit and nice fabric. My husband says these are the "nicest khakis" he's ever had!

Disappointed
I can't believe it. Just when I thought I found casual/business pants that were not too tight...not cut too low in the hips...not too tight in the thighs...Nordstrom changed them. I have somewhat large thighs and the looser fit of the old style was so much more comfortable. I am baffled. Why on earth would a company like Nordstrom change to a "slimmer" look. I was in the process of purchasing every color for work. I even bought a couple of sport Jackets to wear with them. Does anyone know how to get the old ones? I simply can't get behind the new style. If the company does not bring the old ones back (and I am sure they won't), I must find another store/brand that can fill the void left be the discontinuance of those "old" style JD Nordstroms pleated casual/business pants. The search continues.....

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Purchased these "New" styled pants and have worn the old style JWN supima cotton pleated pants for almost a dozen years. My body and weight are the same: fit, lean and trim, so naturally I ordered the size I've have always worn. The pants, unfortunately do not fit the same after the redesign much to my disappointment.
Pants pulling in the derrière area, ahem, is not a good look on anyone. Also, the dye of the Dark Gull Grey is washed out and worn looking. Quality of fabric & dye matters.
Hopefully the old classic style will be resurrected or at least offered as an option with the all around quality and style they used to have.

Bring Back the Old Fit
I have been wearing these Smartcare pants for the past 10 years. They are the only chino/kaki type pants I have ever found that fit me properly in the seat, and I have bought many pairs over the years.
This newest version of these pants, with their 1 1/4" reduction in the seat/thigh area, makes them fit too tightly in the seat for me to be able to wear them. Others have commented on this problem also, and say they must now look elsewhere. The problem is, to my knowledge, there is nothing else that is comparable anywhere else. Most other chino/kaki pants are made from heavier weight cotton and are not as relaxed a fit as these pants used to be. Although I have found other lightweight pants like these, they do not have the full relaxed fit that the previous version of these pants had. Even a relaxed fit Docker pants, has less seat room than the previous version of these pants
It is my hope that the Nordstrom buyers will consider bringing back the older fit of these pants. Perhaps they could be offered in 2 fits...a relaxed fit like the old ones, and a classic fit like the current model.
Fortunately, I still have a number of these pants from previous years, so I will be ok for awhile. However, at some point, I will need to buy some new ones, and unless the older fit is brought back, I will be stuck with no alternatives from any other vendor.
Since there is no extra fabric in the thigh area, the seat can't be let out like with dress wool trousers.
I am rating these pants 1 star, not because there is anything wrong with the quality, but for my satisfaction with these pants. For those who can wear these pants comfortably, they are still the same wonderful product they always were.

Ruined a great product!
The new fit is terrible. Cut is too tight across the back, and the rise chafes my crotch. These used to be awesome pants.. No more. I shall now need to shop elsewhere for my daily pants, and since I don't like shopping at multiple stores... I'll probably buy my suits somewhere else now also. Good luck with the new fit Nordstroms! You have lost my business.

Not your father's Smartcare Pants
Be careful, these are not the good old SmartCare slacks that, I am guessing, middle aged men like myself have been wearing for years. These are the "New" pants that have been restyled to be more trim-fitting - you will see that Nordstrom says 1 1/4" materials has been taking out of the seat and things.
If you like tight pants and you want to highlight your derriere, you will be happy. If, like me, you want to be comfortable while looking smart at a business meeting, look elsewhere.

Too Tight - Bring Back the Classic
I wore the classic JW Nordstrom Smartcare for many years and would have been happy doing so for the rest of this lifetime. I had finally found a pair of pants to order and reorder and need shop no further. Unfortunately this new "modern" fit has closed out a whole class of loyal customers. I suppose its the accountants who locked us out in search of a younger market. I have a wife - I'm not mating, I don't need anyone to admire my butt or my thighs. I had a pair of pants I could enjoy sitting in my car or at my desk in comfort. Its too bad that a company like Nordstrom which used to embrace tradition and quality over trend and fashion would compromise Classic for an extra dollar or a theory of marketing. They lost a reliable and totally loyal customer.
