Nice sandals but run big

Love Andre Assous sandals but these are not European sizes which is what I'm used to getting in this brand. I'm 8 1/2 and normally get size 9 (39 Euro). The us size 9 in these run big. I returned for size 8 and still little big. The top straps are not as snug as I'd like decided to keep them.
