MR1 Mk3 Desktop Speaker System

I bought the MR1 Mk3 speakers to replace a pair that sounded very good. I connected then to the rca line out on my headphone amp and instantly regretted buying them. A loud hum on switch on and a load boomy bass made them unlistenable, even with foam bungs in the base ports. I couldn't understand what the surrounding hype around these was all about. I then connected them via usb to my computer and wow. I then realised why they won awards and people were rating the speakers. An overall well rounded clear presentation with the best bass for desktop speakers I've heard. I'm not sure you would need the SR1 sub with these just for desktop speakers. These are brilliant hifi speakers that look and sound beautiful on the desk. I am so pleased I bought these and will look at other Ruark products now. Thank you.

These tiny speakers certainly punch above their weight, which says a lot for what are quite heavy speakers for their size. From the care taken over the packaging to the quality of the units themselves, you can tell that these speakers are special. Setup was easy, connection even more so and whilst the phono input is a great addition, some may desire a dedicated pair of RCA line inputs for other devices, however for my needs this fit the bill perfectly. Sound wise, these offered great placement and a great sound stage. Depending on the quality of your source, vocals are well placed, mids and highs push through the mix but not too harsh, and whilst some may prefer a deeper bass, for my room, my initial concerns as to whether bass would be deep enough for me, my fears were quickly set aside. Bass is tight but balanced. Considering I'm running a couple of sources through this unit, music doesn't tire and there's no sense of fatigue. My turntable for example even via Bluetooth made vinyls come to life more than I'd heard before, spinning up the newly remastered Queen II album, these speakers did the new mix justice, bringing new elements of this album that I'd not heard before. No equaliser, no tone or bass settings needed. Just plug, play and enjoy. All music should be this simple, all small speakers should sound like this. Ruark did a fantastic job. Had I considered them before, no! Would I consider other products, absolutely! Would I recommend them, hell yeah! If you love music and are in need of a compact pair of speakers add these to your shortlist, you will fall back in love with your music each and every time with these speakers.

My beloved Bose Companion 20’s went up the spout, so I went looking for a set of good quality speakers. Read many reviews and Ruark MR1 Mk3’s were appearing on many lists. Decided to plunge in and purchase a set. The quality of sound in such a small package is amazing! Even better than the Bose Companions, which tended to be on the bass heavy side. Will definitely recommend these good quality set of speakers!

I bought the MR1 Mk3s as my desktop speakers to go along with my workstation and I use them everyday for ambient music, content consumption, conference calls and everything a person would do in front of their computer. They sound great and pack a surprising punch relative to their size. The control knob on top of the right speaker is also easily within reach and they offer a very complete set of inputs. Switching between usb (my pc) and BT for my phone is very quick and seamless. I feel like they really shine in guitar music and have a really great stereo projection for well recorded music. It's a fun sound signature, definitely not a reference monitor equivalent but just way more musical and enjoyable. They are just a very pleasant product to use.
