Ghost Whisperer Packable 800-Fill-Power Down Hooded Jacket

Love this jacket for the extremely high warmth to weight ratio. Great for around the campsite after a long day or quick stops on a hike when you don't want to cool off too much. Also for sleeping in conjunction with a lightweight quilt when temperatures get down into the low 40s. Also appreciate that it comes in some natural colors, not crazy shades not found in nature. Time will tell on long-term durability. I try to take care of my gear, especially lightweight stuff. There's no such thing as a free lunch.

So happy with my Ghost Whisperer. The only, ONLY aspect I would bring up is the zipper... It's a little tuff when I go to zip it up. Pushing the small metal piece on the "slider-free" end into the slider "Y" is "fiddly". But once it hooks up, the operation is normal. Then, when I want to open the front of the jacket, the very last step, where the slider-free end separates from the slider, it "catches" a little.

Used this jacket on a 3 day trip in the Sierras, although it wasn’t too cold in the evenings, I wasn’t burning up at night either. A huge afternoon thunderstorm rolled in and the temp dropped a solid 25 degrees and I threw this bad boy on and I heated up quickly. Super lightweight and packed in my bag easily. Stoked to have this for all of my future trips in the backcountry going forward!

Great lightweight puffy. This is a great daily jacket in the mountains. I wear it skiing most days and it’s nice for casual wear too. I take the Ultralight version on my harness when I do multipitch climbs in the alpine. Unfortunately, some toxic liquid spilled on it and it literally dissolved, but now I have the UL version. I like that this version has the cinch on the hood and waist (better for skiing), which the UL version doesn’t (better for climbing, in my opinion). I took this up Denali too and wore it everyday.

This is an outstanding jacket and is perfect for backpacking all year.

I have had my hooded Ghost Whisperer for around 10 years now. While it's finally starting to show its age, it's been a fantastic jacket. On its own, it's not the warmest. Over a mid layer, however, this thing does incredibly well. The reason to buy a Ghost Whisperer is as a layering piece, and Mountain Hardwear nailed that aspect of the design. It packs into its own pocket down to about the size of a Nalgene, it has very few frills (you can cinch up the waist, that's about it), and is incredibly lightweight. The warmth to weight ratio is the reason to purchase this jacket. After nearly a decade, the light fabric has started getting some holes in it, which are easily patched. I think mine now has about 8 or so patches on it, one from an ice axe that's fairly large. But please note, I have put this jacket through its paces. I wear it as a daily driver during the winter, and on all of my alpine/ice climbing trips. I'm excited to get a new one and see the design updates!
