A lifetime favorite
I have worn Birkenstock Madrid sandals all over the world, journeying within work in world spiritual traditions, education, and service. The Madrid was created decades ago as Birkenstock's original exercise sandal, to benefit the feet, ankles, legs, knees, pelvis and back, posture and alignment. I purchased my first pair after a bad fall hiking in South America in which I injured one leg in eleven places. The sandals have been of extreme benefit to my life and body for almost twenty years. They exercise the foot and lower body, call the pelvis, back and torso into balanced alignment, and are chic, comfortable and cherished.

New Birkenstocks
Won't stay on your feet. Feel like boards. I have other Birkenstocks and love them, but really don't like this style.

I love these. They're my go-to and great for traveling. They're casual enough for jeans or shorts but can be worn with a skirt or dress, too. I've even worn them hiking on the Big Island's lava field and and up and down Singapore's Bukit Timah Nature Reserve's muddy stairs and hills. My dog loves them, too. He's eaten about 5 pairs of these now so keep them out of reach of you have any furry mutts!

Cute Birks
I love these so much and am so happy I finally bought them. They're not as bulky as many Birks (which I love on other people, but they look funny on me for some reason). I have narrow-ish feet and a low instep, these can be adjusted to fit perfectly. Highly recommend!

not comfortable
The black strap is very stiff and it hurts walking in them. In fact the black strap is plastic with a felt lining. I decided to return it and traded them in for the traditional Birkenstock- about double the price but it is an investment for my feet.
