Almost perfect
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wanted to love these shorts and tried them on multiple times before deciding to return. I have a 29" waist and 39" hips and am reliably a Madewell 27 (I know, sizing runs a bit vanity here). I'm 5'2" but prefer normal Madewell sizing (not petite) because I like the higher rise with more room from the crotch to waistband. If I had no jean shorts I would keep these, but they're just not entirely flattering on the legs. At first I thought the butt/crotch was a bit big, but I changed my mind as I like a little room during hot sweaty days. The issue for me is the legs, they are just a little too long and flare out at the bottom. The shorts look good cuffed once, but I think they will uncuff throughout the day. Since I have one pair of jean shorts in a similar color, I am going to return. It would be great to see these in different lengths and colors--I don't mean booty shorts, just an inch or two shorter for petites.

Perfect pair of denim shorts
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These shorts are the exact right length! I loved the wash, and the absence of rips/distress make them a classic I will keep in my wardrobe for a life time. Only complaint is that the waist is a little more snug than my other Madewell items in the same size. Ordering another pair up one size so I can wear these all summer long!

Perfect for middle-aged women
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a 40-year-old, I feel like I need to begin getting some mild coverage. These shorts are washed but not frayed, and they rise just at the navel. They hit mid-leg, so they are just about everything I needed from a pair of jean shorts.
