Sateen Eye Colour

I purchased this eye shadow in Sandstone and Rose, hoping for a soft neutral base color for everyday wear. The Rose shade is a tad bit on the purplish side - not a flattering color on someone like me with pale skin and of a mature age. (It almost looks like bruised skin on my pale lids.) The Sandstone is very light and would be okay on someone as a base if they were younger. However on me, the product (in both colors) seemed to settle in the crease of my eyelid, drawing attention to wrinkles. I also ordered Laura Mercier eye caviar crayon in Rose Gold. THAT is absolutely lovely! It works as a beautiful base color - both with or without her eyelid primer. I stroke it on, apply a little eyeliner in Cocoa eye caviar crayon, and I'm good to go! My lids look soft and lovely, with a very faint shimmer that flatters and draws attention away from imperfections.

The shade "sandstone" is the one I'm reviewing. It's a neutral color with a hint of pinky peach pearl. It's the perfect color to pop on quickly in the mornings for work because it matches everything and makes me look awake & alert (something I am not in the mornings!) Whether your clothes are dressy or casual, and whatever color clothes or eyeliner/lipstick etc you are wearing this will match and look elegant. It's fast to apply, good quality and stays on well. I've gone through one already and bought this as a replacement because I hate being without this eyeshadow!

Having tried every shadow, from drugstore to the very expensive, I am totally convinced Laura Mercier makes the best eye shadow on the market. I have about 8 pans, and use the pallattes to "make my own" pallatte and organize colors. I love her brushes as well, Laura Mercier eye shadow brushes are simply fanastic. If you want to get out of the door fast, pick shadows that are the best for your skin tone and style, and not try to rely on a pre made pallatte, I highly suggest investing the money and getting 3-5 pans with the empty pallatte holders. You will have enough product to last 1-3 years, and it will be the right color for you. I ignore the pre made LM books, as I always find one or two that I love; and run out of those colors and am left with a bunch that I toss. Go with the pans, get the colors right, and wow !! Best part - these never itch my eyes, look flat, or look like a disco ball !

The eye shadow itself is awesome, though if you are buying 3 for the compact, it adds up. Thought I am slightly disappointed by the packaging. The pretty individual compact is such a waste once the eye shadow component is removed. Laura Mercier, why not just sell the individual eye shadow without the compact? Another disappointment is that my local Nordstrom did not have half the colors on stock, so they have to be ordered.

The photo on this page does not do the Laura Mercier Dusk eye shadow justice. It is a lovely lavender with a luster than doesn't settle in the creases of your eye lids. Since I'm an older woman, I don't want my eye shadow settling like some do and this Laura Mercier is the best yet! Thanks for creating such a wonderful product.

I was looking for a neutral crease shade to complement my pale skin tone. I typically use Lancome Off the Rack (a pale pinkish-white with some sheen) as my base lid/eye area shade. Browns or peachy colors just don't look good on me. A Nordstrom online beauty expert suggested the LM in sable - she was right! It's hard to describe the color - not gray, not taupe - but whatever it is, it works well! There is no glitter but rather a nice soft sheen. I also use LM in Crystal Fantasy as a highlighter on my lids and along the lash line. This shade is a soft pale whitish minty green that brightens the eye. Then I apply my darker liner color. A very elegant look.
