These shrink drastically

I loved these shorts so much when I tried them on. However, when I washed them as instructed and air dried them they still shrunk by nearly two sizes. I understand they're 100% cotton but I've never had that drastic of a change, especially with hang drying. Disappointed because I truly liked these they're so cute.
