Kire Plateau

The Kire Basket is crafted using hand dyed and woven banana leaf.  A new addition to our line of signature plateaus, each basket is hand woven by women-owned artisan cooperatives in Rwanda. 12" W x 3" H Available in Natural and Sunburst Made from locally sourced banana leaf Includes a loop on the back for hanging The ideal housewarming gift and the perfect shape and size to be used as a fruit basket, hung in a cluster on a gallery wall, or simply placed as an accent piece in your favorite nook around the house or office. Due to the handmade nature, some size and color variation may occur. Behind The Design: Rwanda has a long history of craft. Traditionally passed down through generations of women, weaving has long been a form of artistic expression with very practical application.   Artisans in Rwanda pick banana leaves (or source from local farmers), placing them in the sun to dry until they reach the desired shade of brown, tan or white before weaving. Banana leaf can be woven in a variety of ways and – once sun bleached - hand dyed using natural dyes.
